We are urgently seeking a First Nations Learning Support Mentor for up to 2 hours per week in the Logan area for students who have specifically requested a learning support mentor with first nations heritage. Usual hours are between 3:30pm – 7:00pm, Monday to Friday.
This role is an opportunity to walk alongside and support a young person in care through culturally safe and meaningful one-on-one learning support.
About the Role
Are you a proud Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander university student passionate about empowering young people in care through education? The Little Stars Learners Program is seeking mentors who can provide culturally responsive, one-on-one educational support to students in foster, kinship, and residential care.
At Little Stars, our mission is to support young people who have experienced abuse and neglect by helping them engage in learning positively, build confidence, and develop self-esteem through one-on-one in-home education support. Our Little Stars Learners program model is the only one of its kind, standing out with its focus on one-on-one tailored learning support to the cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges these children face. We believe that connection and consistency are key to the success of our program.

The Role Requirements:
· Commit to one-on-one weekly in-home education sessions with your assigned children for the entire school year.
· Participate in ongoing weekly feedback, catch-up calls, and support from your manager.
· Commitment to your assigned students for the entire school year of 2025.
· Prior experience working with children and as a mentor/tutor is advantageous but not essential.
· Possess a valid driver's license and have access to your own vehicle.
· Hold a current paid Blue Card or be willing to obtain (we can assist you with the application process).
· Must have availability after-school hours Monday to Friday from 3.30pm onwards.
Skills You'll Have:
· Currently studying at university.
· Competence in Maths and English.
· Ability to work with neurodivergent children with patience and empathy.
· Empathetic and understanding nature.
· Ability to build positive relationships with children and their carers.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and take initiative in planning and delivering one-on-one sessions with your students.
· Studying psychology or education preferred but not necessary.
· At least 2 positive references.
