The Team

You will join a team of a highly motivated and collaborative professionals that work in the Indigo Program Management Office Branch. The Indigo Program Management Office Branch sits within the Enterprise Transformation Group of the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). The Group as a whole is responsible for developing innovative and achievable transformation options for consideration by the Executive Leadership Team.

The Branch has a diverse range of skillsets and will be supporting the delivery of a modernisation agenda that will see the AEC transition away from monolithic legacy systems onto contemporary platforms.

The Indigo Program is a once in a generation modernisation program to improve the delivery of election and roll management services. This role will contribute to a broad program that will position the agency to handle a significant uplift in their service delivery.

The Governance and Assurance team within the Indigo Program Management Office is responsible for maintaining oversight of the Indigo Program. This includes implementing fit-for-purpose Governance arrangements and assessing program performance through undertaking various assurance activities.

There is a large focus on integrity, transparency and accountability in ETG. Cultural fit and the ability to maintain open and honest communication and collaboration within a team are also critical to the success of these roles. The expectation is that these roles will embody this culture, support the positive maintenance of the culture within the section, branch, division and group. These roles will also help promote transparency and accountability in everything that we do.

Alongside the cultural responsibilities, the AEC is committed to the APS values of being impartial, committed to service, accountable, respectful and ethical.

The Opportunity

The Director, Indigo Governance and Assurance, will undertake a range of activities to develop, implement, and maintain the Indigo Program’s robust governance framework and policies, ensuring compliance with the enterprise standards, including the Program’s Secretariat capability. In addition to driving continuous improvement in risk management, the Director will provide strategic advice to Program executives on governance and assurance matters aligned with Program objectives, supporting strategic planning and informed decision-making. The role includes overseeing Program performance in an agile delivery environment and developing strategies to address emerging risks and issues.

Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Indigo Program Management Office, the Director will lead a small team responsible for embedding first-line assurance and delivering a suite of governance and assurance activities, including benefits, risk and issue management. The role requires the preparation and review of high-level documentation, analysis and advice, such as Executive briefings, Committee papers, governance frameworks, and external reporting.

The director will foster a safe, inclusive, and high-performing work environment through effective leadership, including team recruitment, performance management, and development. Building and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders, such as the Department of Finance and the Digital Transformation Agency, is also just as essential as maintaining positive working relationships with internal stakeholders across the Group and broader agency.
