ABOUT THE ROLE

The Academic Learner Assistant provides academic support to students, this support will vary depending on the student needs and will enable them to independently participate in and benefit from classroom activities. This role responsible for the implementation of academic support strategies identified through the enrolment process or as the student progresses through their education.
Selected Duties:
Maintain excellence in customer services, a respectful and inclusive attitude to diversity, and commitment to continuous learning and improvement, to support Wodonga TAFE’s strategic growth and development.
Assist English as an Additional Language teachers and in providing support to individuals and small groups of students to ensure that the student is provided with appropriate academic and language support.
Under general supervision, support students with language needs. Where additional needs are identified, referring onto relevant support area as per procedure.
Ensure the students have access to the most effective resources for their needs.
Keep the EAL teachers informed about language and learning needs of students.
Whilst conducting individual support, ensure that support is provided in accordance with established procedures to maintain student safety.

Skills & Experience

Certificate IV Education Support and / or a suitable combination of lesser qualifications and relevant experience
Language, Literacy and Numeracy Qualification or completed TAELLN411 Unit is desirable.
Proficiency level in speaking English, able to speak Swahili and Kinyarwanda. Other dialects within the Congo DRC are desirable.
