Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Service Design Delivery Branch are seeking motivated leaders with proven experience in delivering quality outcomes, to join the NDIA as EL1 Assistant Domain Owner.

We are seeking excellent communicators who have experience in working within an agile design squad, utilising varied skills to achieve team objectives and goals. You will have a strong ability to lead planning and execution of comprehensive research activities to gather insights into user needs, behaviours, and pain points. As a leader, you will model the APS and NDIA Values, making a positive contribution to the Branch culture.

The Service Design Delivery Branch is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve internal service delivery processes and systems. The branch works with Subject Matter Experts to create and implement solutions that simplify processes, improve timelines and the quality of outcomes for participants. The branch designs the elements that deliver the strategic vision of the NDIS Pathway and works to improve the consistency and equity of NDIA decisions and ensures the Scheme is aligned with insurance principles for future sustainability.

Where you can add value

The EL1 Assistant Domain Owner will exercise a considerable degree of independence to engage in very complex problem solving and issues management within the branch functions. The position requires exercising sound decision-making and judgement to produce high level policy advice and operational support.

The position is required to coordinate and assume responsibility to undertake detailed or sensitive projects that may include performing varied activities involving many different and unrelated processes or methods that may impact on the strategic or operational outcomes that support the NDIA’s objectives to “build a world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme”.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Leading a team of business analysts and service designers in providing guidance, support, professional development and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Leading the end to end delivery of projects through the design and build phases.
  • Ensuring design & build priorities are clear, delivered and Domain Owners are aware of risks.
  • Providing context of key design & build considerations while supporting and enabling teams.
  • Ensuring product is fit-for-purpose for both participants and internal end users.
  • Guiding development of prototypes and testing within the team ensuring designs are refined based on feedback.

Our ideal candidate will be confident in overseeing analysis of research findings, informing decision-making and identifying opportunities for service improvements. You will facilitate regular engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders in gathering inputs, validating findings and ensuring improvement opportunities meet a diverse range of user needs. You will have demonstrated excellent communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing requests, demands and priorities. Your experience and sound leadership skills will inspire team members to strive for the best outcomes through your clear and proactive work planning.

This role can be performed from any NDIA office location. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
