- $115,774.00 per annum + 11.5% superannuation

- Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung/Melbourne CBD location with regular travel throughout Victoria
About the opportunity
WorkSafe is seeking a Technical Inspector to join the Major Hazards team as part of the Major Hazards and Dangerous Goods division of Field Operations. You will spend a large part of your time visiting and inspecting workplaces that are licensed Major Hazard Facilities throughout Victoria. As a Technical Inspector, you will conduct scheduled inspections and participate in and lead annual and verification inspections as required. During an inspection, you will gauge the level of compliance with legislative requirements and take appropriate action, which may range from the provision of information to the imposing of enforcement measures.
Key Accountabilities
- Monitoring and Enforcing Compliance: You will assess, monitor and enforce compliance to OH&S and Dangerous Goods legislation in the workplace, in accordance with WorkSafe policy and procedure.
- Incident Assessment: You will review incidents, report and determine next steps, including making recommendations for further investigation.
- Managing Disputes in accordance with Statutory Requirements: You will assist in the resolution of disputes in the workplace through the provision of advice and management of stakeholder interactions.
- Undertake project activities: You will support projects through undertaking inspections and reporting in accordance with project objectives. You may participate in project teams as a representative of the field. You may be required to support projects through providing representation at stakeholder forums, as required by the Group Leader.
- Stakeholder Relationships: You will have opportunities to represent WorkSafe at a variety of public forums and manage stakeholder relationships according to operational policy and procedure.

About you
You are passionate about Victorian's Health & Safety and ready for the next step in your career. You have a high level ability to liaise in a professional manner with a diverse internal and external client/stakeholder group in a variety of situations, using a range of influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution approaches as well as the ability to share expertise in a manner that builds others understanding and capability. Additionally, you will also possess:
- Practical knowledge in the storage & handling of Dangerous Goods
- A demonstrated knowledge and experience of process industries (highly desirable)
- A system thinking approach through experience and/or application
- Knowledge of industry standards and codes of practice
- Understanding of equipment, work practices and operating procedures
- Practical experience in implementing OH&S and Dangerous Goods legislation
- A background working at a Major Hazard Facility (desirable)
- Hold a current Australian driver's licence
- Willingness to complete a comprehensive 13-week training program, whereby you will be appointed as an inspector under the health and safety legislation administered by WorkSafe, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Equipment (Public Safety) EPS Acts and the Dangerous Goods Act 1985 & subordinate legislation
