With an evolving workforce and a strong brand presence, the company is seeking an experienced legal professional to support their Australian operations in delivering consistent, compliant, and people orientated ER strategies.

The Role:

The Employment Relations Lawyer will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of employee relations matters across the business, providing legal counsel, supporting internal investigations, reviewing policies, and ensuring compliance with relevant workplace laws and regulations.

Acting as a trusted advisor, this role will support both the senior HR leadership team and operational managers in cultivating a fair, legally sound, and values-driven workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the employee relations function, offering strategic legal advice to HR and leadership teams.
  • Provide end-to-end advice and support on employment law matters, including disciplinary procedures, grievances, performance management, and internal investigations.
  • Conduct investigations into matters including workplace bullying, harassment, and misconduct, ensuring procedural fairness and appropriate outcomes.
  • Chair and support internal disciplinary and Code of Conduct committees.
  • Draft and review employment contracts, workplace policies, and compliance documentation in line with local legislation and global standards.
  • Represent the business in dispute resolution processes and Fair Work Commission hearings.
  • Guide the business on the interpretation and application of Modern Awards, including classification and entitlement queries.
  • Promote and support mental health awareness initiatives and workplace wellbeing strategies.
  • Ensure the organisation meets all health and safety obligations in line with local laws and corporate guidelines.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to drive legislative compliance, employee advocacy, and continuous improvement in ER practices.

About You:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience practicing as an Employment Relations or Workplace Lawyer, ideally within a fast-paced, customer-focused organisation.
  • Degree qualified in Employment or Labour Law with a strong grasp of Australian employment legislation and industrial relations frameworks.
  • Skilled in conducting workplace investigations and managing complex ER issues with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly in preparing legal reports, memos, and internal briefings.
  • Able to work independently, while also contributing to cross-functional teams.
  • High level of initiative, professionalism, and cultural awareness.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and managing competing priorities.
  • Passionate about creating respectful, safe, and inclusive workplaces.
