Our client supports the operations of the Australian Government, offering a hybrid working arrangement within a professional and friendly team. They provide excellent working conditions and benefits, with offices in both Canberra and Brisbane.

The Opportunity

This role is being offered as either a Section 26 permanent transfer (preferred) for existing APS employees or a non-ongoing 12-month contract, with the potential for permanency, for an experienced management accountant from the private sector. This is a vacant position.

This opportunity will allow you to build meaningful relationships with key business areas, and high performers will be rewarded with acting opportunities.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing expert financial and management accounting support, with a focus on project accounting, financial systems, and compliance with government frameworks
• Preparing and monitoring budgets, including program budgets, to track expenditure against forecasts and provide variance analysis
• Assisting with month-end financial processes, financial modelling, and analysis
• Managing stakeholder relationships by providing financial insights and supporting teams through budgetary and operational changes
• Ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting

The Ideal Person

You are an experienced management accountant or finance business partner with clear communication skills. You thrive in a collaborative environment and takes pride in delivering high-quality work. Known for your attention to detail, you proactively solve problems to add value. Proficiency in SAP, TM1, and strong Excel skills are highly regarded.

Essential qualifications include a relevant degree, with CA/CPA accreditation or active progression toward it being highly desirable.

You are likely to have one of the following backgrounds:

• Experience working in a Big 4 or consulting firm, focusing on Federal Government engagements involving management accounting or budgeting
• Government experience at the APS6 level as a Management Accountant or Finance Business Partner, with strong tenure and a desire to broaden your skills in a new department
• A high-performing APS5 with extensive acting APS6 experience in Finance Business Partnering, seeking career progression

Applicants MUST be Australian Citizens and ability to obtain an baseline security clearance

Salary / Rate

• $97k - $110k + 15.4% Super
