Our Federal Government client are seeking a Lead Developer to be responsible for the specification, system design, and development of innovative and engaging experiences including websites, applications, interactives, and other digital products and processes for the organisation. The successful applicant will Work closely with staff and external partners to create, develop and build innovative, experimental online and onsite experiences based on existing and emerging technologies. This role will be a lead advocate of innovation in the application of technology within the organisation

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high level strategic advice and recommendations to the Head of Digital and Engagement, Content, and Insights team on issues related to the system design, development and implementation of innovative and emerging technologies.
• Work collaboratively with the Digital Engagement, Content and Insights team, teams within the Experience division, colleagues, vendors, and experts, to build new and innovative online and onsite experiences to drive engagement across the organisation’s digital offerings.
• Ensure technical feasibility on design and implementation of scalable, optimised and creative digital experiences/prototypes that can be deployed across multiple platforms.
• Prototype and deliver audience focussed digital experiences within timelines and budgetary constraints.
• Manage internal and external development, infrastructure, and technical teams, and lead the review of code and documentation for quality, compliance, standards, and best practises.
• Identify new and emerging hardware, software, and other technologies, assess their relevance and potential value to the Organisation
• Provide technical consultation and advice, and participate in, co-design, user experience and other research workshops, and digital projects. Manage, or perform, the creation, maintenance, and retirement of software platforms required to develop and manage innovative experiences and the organisations primary website, CMS, and associated APIs, using modern development tool chains and stacks
• Manage evolving requirements, competing priorities, changing landscapes, risk, and ambiguity.
• Maintain excellent working relationships with all staff, in particular technical staff, and strategic relationships with industry groups and professionals

Essential Experience

• Broad and deep knowledge and experience of modern web development technologies, patterns, tools, and platforms
• Experience managing teams of developers and designers, both local, remote, and external
• Experience planning, costing, architecting, and delivery of large or complex technical projects.
• Excellent skills in full stack web development including CMS design, modern JavaScript, CSS, HTML. 5. Demonstrated technical experience developing and maintaining Drupal 10+, NextJS/ReactJS/Typescript, Tailwind, GraphQL, and API integrations. Proficient in git CLI, Github issue queues, PRs and actions, and Docker. 6. A history of engaging and prototyping with emerging technologies and maintaining up to date knowledge of their capabilities and uses. For example: IoT, hardware control, photogrammetry, AI/ML, 3d printing, WebGL, and AR/VR/XR.
