About Us:
Reading Out of Poverty (ROOP) is an Australian not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting and delivering early literacy programs among children aged 0–6 years from low socio-economic backgrounds. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn to read regardless of their circumstances. We are focused on 12 of the most disadvantaged suburbs in Victoria and 8 other communities across Australia, including: SA, QLD, NSW and WA. Through the support of volunteers and generous book donations, we aim to foster a love for reading and learning to break the cycle of poverty.
Job Overview:
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating various programs and operations that ensure the smooth delivery of our services. This includes managing volunteers, handling book donations, and liaising with communities to set up pop-up libraries and literacy packs delivery. The Program Coordinator will also assist the General Manager with ad-hoc administrative tasks and office support. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, capable of multi-tasking, and passionate about making a positive impact in the community.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Coordination:
Manage and coordinate volunteers for various programs and events
Organise volunteer days for sorting and arranging books in the office and warehouse
Ensure a positive and engaging volunteer experience
Capture photos and videos of activities and store in SharePoint
Book Donation Management:
Oversee the receipt, sorting, and distribution of book donations
Manage the storage and organisation of donated books in the office and warehouse
Ensure that books are well-maintained and stored in a clean and organised manner
Book Pick-up and Drop-off Coordination:
Arrange logistics for book pick-up and drop-off points
Coordinate with donors and volunteers to ensure smooth collection and distribution
Community Outreach and Programs Coordination:
Liaise with local communities to set up pop-up libraries and other book distribution initiatives such as literacy packs
Build relationships with community leaders to maximise outreach and impact
Attend events appointed by the General Manager to promote ROOP within our community
Administrative Support:
Assist the General Manager with administrative tasks as needed, such as data entry, reporting, and coordination of events
Handle phone inquiries regarding book distributions and general program inquiries
Warehouse and Office Organisation:
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe space for book storage in the office and warehouse
Ensure proper inventory control of donated books and supplies
Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum 1-2 years in a manager role (e.g. program coordinator, event coordinator, marketing coordinator, volunteer coordinator, retail manager, logistics manager, venue manager)
Passionate about literacy, education, and community development
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Knowledge of stock management and inventory control
Experience in team management or volunteer management
Experience in community outreach and event management is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management
Professional and friendly when interacting with the public and volunteers
Must-Haves:
Current car driver's license

Valid WWCC
