The Institute for Respiratory Health (Inc) is a not-for-profit medical research institute, carrying out scientific and clinical research into the treatment and management of lung diseases such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, mesothelioma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis. Our Mission is to bring together world-class researchers to develop new ideas, treatments and better health outcomes for people living with respiratory disease.

Our internationally recognised scientists and clinicians research to better understand and treat chronic lung conditions. We are one of only six medical research institutes in Western Australia.

We are looking for an experienced Human Resources professional to join the Team. The position is a 12-month fixed part-time contract (0.50 FTE to 0.80 FTE) with the potential for permanent conversion after 12 months. Reporting to the CFO, the Human Resources Officer delivers overall governance of the HR practice and acts as day-to-day support and guidance to managers regarding employment legislation and Human Resources best practices.

This role will be based at Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, 6 Verdun Street, Nedlands.

About The Role

Key responsibilities include:

Oversee all aspects of Human Resources practices and processes including maintaining all Human Resource records, files, templates and forms in compliance with regulations;

Manage the recruitment of employees and assist with candidate screening and interviews, including inductions and onboarding of employees;

Continuously review, develop and implement policies and procedures to meet the Institute’s objectives in line with current legislation;

Provide all HR administration;

Develop an organisation-wide commitment to performance management processes;

Manage all staff performance issues, including coaching, counselling, disciplinary actions and develop performance improvement plans when required;

Other related duties as required.

Required skills and attributes:

Essential

Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related business field;

Expert knowledge of Human Resource organisational policies and practices;

Experience with staff development, training and management;

Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict-resolution skills;

Self-motivated, high energy and a problem solver;

Strong relationship management and influencing skills;

Excellent communication skills and highly service-orientated;

Ability to work collaboratively at an executive/strategic level; and

A well-developed understanding of Fair Work legislation, industrial relations and employment conditions.

Desirable

Knowledge of Employment Hero Platform;

Experience in health or medical research institutes is highly desirable for this role.

Appointment Prerequisites

National Police Clearance.

Provision of the minimum identity proofing requirements.
