About the service
The Aboriginal Legal Service of WA Limited (ALSWA) is funded by the Department of Justice to provide the Bail Support Service Perth, which provides Aboriginal bail support workers to work with accused persons appearing in the Central Law Courts and remanded to metropolitan prisons.
The BSS Perth program is closely linked to the Prison In-Reach Legal Services (PIR), which provides lawyers to work with accused persons appearing in the Central Law Courts. The objective of the BSS and PIR programs is to reduce avoidable remand by providing earlier access to bail for suitable applicants through the provision of bail support and prison in-reach legal services and by supporting accused to comply with bail conditions and undertakings.
This position requires a responsible person who is compassionate and self-motivated with well-developed interpersonal skills and personal integrity.
About the role
The main role of the Bail Support Worker is to provide support to adult accused persons by developing bail support plans, by assisting clients to comply with their bail conditions, and by providing practical support and assistance (including but not limited to transport assistance, reminders and referrals to appropriate support programs and services in the community). Another key role of a Bail Support Worker is to mentor and guide clients to improve their health, safety and wellbeing.
You will be required to attend the Central Law Courts and metropolitan prisons and conduct home visits to clients on a regular basis.
You will also be required to liaise with key stakeholders, perform administrative duties (file and data management) and other duties as directed.
About our benefits
We have a friendly, caring and diverse work environment. We offer attractive employment benefits including salary packaging (making part of your salary tax-free), free counselling services to employees and immediate family through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), flexible working arrangements and opportunities for professional development.
We also provide 5 weeks annual leave per year plus leave loading, 2 weeks additional paid leave for end of year closure, and access to additional paid leave for health and well-being.
