Are you a skilled communicator with a passion for research and a keen eye for detail? James Cook University is seeking a dynamic and driven Research Grants and Opportunities Advisor to join our Research & Innovation Services team in Townsville.

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE

James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Research and Grants Advisor to join our Research Services team on the Townsville campus. This pivotal role supports JCU’s vibrant research community by providing high-level advice, coordinating grant submissions, and fostering engagement with diverse research funding opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert advice, training, and workshops to ensure research funding opportunities and sector developments are effectively communicated across JCU.
  • Provide strategic guidance on policies, contractual obligations, and application processes to reduce risk and enhance research success.
  • Support researchers in submitting competitive and compliant grant applications, managing funding rounds, and navigating approval workflows.
  • Work collaboratively to grow JCU’s research funding portfolio by fostering strong relationships across the academic, government, and industry sectors.
  • Manage post-award administrative support (excluding financials), including accurate data entry in JCU’s Research Information Management System (GECO)

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

To be successful, you will have:

  • Qualifications and experience aligned with the appropriate Higher Education Worker (HEW) level.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities within research administration or grant/tender management.
  • In-depth knowledge of higher education and/or government research funding policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with researchers, government bodies, and industry partners.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF RESEARCH

The Research Division plays a pivotal role in the University by developing and implementing research strategy and policy, identifying and fostering research strength, delivering research services including grants, ethics and commercialisation, managing research infrastructure and promoting and coordinating collaboration with governments, industry, publicly funded research agencies and other universities.
