We are seeking a Research Grants Specialist to join Office of Research Services, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.
Please note that this is not an academic role. Applicants that do not demonstrate significant research grant administration experience in a university research office or similar environment will not be considered. As a member of the Office of Research Services’ Research Grants Pillar, the Research Grants Specialist will provide support across the University faculty portfolios. The position is responsible for ensuring submission of compliant competitive grant applications to national and international grant schemes particularly those funded by the Australian Research Council, the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Medical Research Future Fund. Working with the University community, the position supports researchers through the provision of information on specific grant scheme requirements and review processes to facilitate submission of applications to competitive research grant schemes and supports post award processes.

Office of Research Services (ORS) works with QUT staff, collaborators, and partners to identify, attract and manage funding from competitive and commercial sources. The Office also manages the University’s research management platforms and coordinates internal and external research reporting. As a member of the Office of Research Services’ Research Grants Pillar, the Research Grants Specialist will provide support across the University faculty portfolios. What you need to succeed
- Education, training and experience equivalent to postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications with at least six (6) years’ experience in research grant administration, particularly pre-award research grant administration, at scale, in an Australian university research office or similar environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the current national research funding environment, national policies and funding issues relating to research funding and grants administration.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills including the interpretation of complex grant scheme requirements, as well as policy, compliance, legislative and regulatory documents.
- Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels, to consult and negotiate with external clients on a range of sensitive and confidential issues, and to successfully deliver information and training to individuals and groups of various sizes.
- Extensive demonstrated experience in the critical appraisal of research grant applications and provision of scheme specific advice to ensure the compliance of research grant applications.
- Knowledge of and exposure to contractual issues relevant to research grant agreements and research contracts, with demonstrated understanding of intellectual property issues.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet strict deadlines, work independently use initiative and judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a team environment and provide positive input to enable a supportive culture
