Hey there, SecOps Engineers. Got some years of cyber under your belt and ready to step into something with more autonomy? Want to shape how security is done at a company that believes in getting on with things — no red tape, no over-engineered processes? Like figuring things out on your own and digging into tools, not just waiting for someone to tell you what to do?

Then this one just might float your boat.

Let’s talk about what’s in it for you first. Here’s what you can expect in this permanent Melbourne-based role:

  • Earn between $120–150k including super, with room to grow from the middle of that range.
  • Enjoy a hybrid work style: 1–2 days in the office each week, but this isn’t enforced.
  • Free access to an on-site gym to get the blood pumping.
  • Discounted parking at a smidge over $10/day, and fresh fruit to smash your daily fibre needs.
  • You’ll work in a truly flexible environment. Kids at home? Appointments? Need a sleep-in one day? It’s all good, just get the job done.
  • Work with smart, down-to-earth people who are genuinely helpful. The culture is low-ego, high-collaboration.
  • You’ll have access to online learning platforms and be encouraged to follow your curiosity. Try stuff. Break stuff. Improve stuff. Learn stuff.
  • You’ll be working with a Manager who gets it. This ain’t a corporate suit type; they’re someone who’ve come up on the tools. They understand the role you’ll play, they been there themselves, and they’ll empathise with and support you the whole way.

So, what’s the role all about?
You’ll be stepping into a greenfield opportunity as the first dedicated Security hire. That means real ownership, but also means you’ll need to be confident working without a team of seniors around you.
There’s a broader blended technology crew around you (spanning IT Ops, Cloud Engineering, Security and AI), but this role is for someone who’s independent and proactive.
You’ll help uplift the security posture across the board — from tool selection and hands-on implementation to monitoring, compliance support and internal advocacy. Whether it’s exploring an IDAM platform, fine-tuning a firewall rule, digging into a SIEM alert, securing the cloud, or collaborating with engineers on a project, you’ll be across the full spectrum of security operations.

Who’s this business?
They’re a software-led company working at the intersection of technology and services. Think modern, cloud-based platforms that support essential operational needs across a wide customer base. It's fast-paced and growing – the kind of place where no one’s micromanaging you, and everyone’s just trying to do good work.

What will set you up for success?

  • You’ve got 3–5 years of hands-on cyber security experience. Prior SecOps experience is necessary for this role; it won’t suit someone looking for their start in cyber, unfortunately.
  • You’ve maybe been a SysAdmin in a past life - you understand systems and infra from the ground up.
  • You’re confident in cloud security (Azure experience would be gold, but if you get GCP/AWS, no doubt your knowledge can transfer).
  • You’re familiar with modern security tooling — SIEM, EDR, firewalls, etc.
  • While you’re humble enough to know you’re not the finished article, you don’t need your hand held. You take initiative, you dig into new tech, and you follow through.
  • You’re flexible, pragmatic, and solutions-focused. You don’t get hung up on your own way of doing things; you find a way forward and can reach the middle ground with stakeholders.
  • You’ll need to be an Australian PR or citizen. Unfortunately, sponsorship isn’t an option here.

The interview process is short and sweet – two formal interviews (tech and culture), followed by an informal coffee catch-up. The 2 formal interviews can be done over Teams or in person.

If any of this has piqued your interest, please consider applying. There’s much more information – technical and contextual – that can be shared with you on a confidential basis which may help you decide if this is the job for you.
