We're seeking a driven and technically skilled Cyber Security Operations Team Lead to join our growing cyber security team. Reporting to the Head of Cyber Security (CISO), this is a hands-on leadership role focused on protecting RWWA’s digital environment through proactive threat detection, incident response, and operational resilience. If you're ready to make a measurable impact and help uplift cyber maturity across the organisation, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Lead day-to-day operations of RWWA’s managed Security Operations Centre (SOC), overseeing threat detection, incident triage, and response.
- Coordinate vulnerability management, penetration testing, and security assessments in collaboration with internal and external teams.
- Enhance security monitoring platforms (SIEM, XDR, PAM, IAM), refine detection rules, and apply threat intelligence to improve response readiness.
- Support alignment to NIST CSF 2.0 and the WA Government Cyber Security Policy, contributing to internal governance and risk processes.
- Build team capability, deliver training and awareness initiatives, and foster a high-performing and collaborative culture.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re after a technically capable and people-focused leader with experience managing operational security platforms. You’ll bring:
- A proactive, investigative mindset with a passion for understanding threats and improving detection and response.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to guide, support, and get the best out of a small, close-knit team.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to translate technical detail into meaningful insights for different audiences.
- A collaborative and approachable style, building trust across technology, business, and vendor teams.
- Resilience and composure in high-pressure situations, with a calm, methodical approach to incident handling.
- Confidence operating in a dynamic environment where your expertise directly shapes cyber resilience.
Qualifications
About You
- Proven ability to lead managed SOC functions, real-time threat detection and response, and coordinate incident investigations and mitigation activities.
- Proficiency in operating and tuning security platforms. Desirable experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Defender, Tenable.io, ThreatLocker, Palo Alto GlobalProtect, and cloud-native systems.
- Demonstrated ability to optimise log ingestion, develop and refine detection rules, and apply threat intelligence to support real-time monitoring and incident response.
- Strong understanding of vulnerability identification, prioritisation, and remediation coordination, aligned with business risk and supported by appropriate tooling.
- Sound knowledge of the MITRE ATT&CK framework and its application to threat detection, investigation, and response use cases.
- Comprehensive understanding of security frameworks including NIST CSF 2.0, ASD’s ISM, and the WA Government Cyber Security Policy, with the ability to align security operations and controls with organisational policies, standards, and regulatory obligations.
- Hold a recognised tertiary qualification in information technology or cyber security, relevant professional certifications, or can demonstrate equivalent extensive industry experience.
