Alice Springs Desert Park
Alice Springs Desert Park is a unique conservation and education facility showcasing the native flora and fauna of Central Australia. Spanning 1,300 hectares, the park features carefully maintained desert habitats – Desert Rivers, Sand Country, and Woodland – that highlight the diversity and resilience of arid zone plant species. Horticulture plays a vital role in maintaining and restoring these landscapes, with a strong focus on the propagation, care and presentation of native desert plants. The park also supports conservation programs and research projects involving rare and threatened plant species.
The Role
As the Senior Horticulturist, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance and high-quality presentation of the landscapes and scientific plant collections at the Alice Springs Desert Park
Key Duties
Oversee day-to-day operations, including team leadership, budgeting, staff management, and contributing to revenue planning.
Manage the design, development and maintenance of minor landscaping works.
Lead the development, maintenance and presentation of the park’s in-ground botanical collections and displays.
Manage and implement a best practice weed control program.
Support and participate in native plant field collection programs.
Oversee all Work Health and Safety requirements for the Landscaping Unit.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is invested in contributing to the preservation of Central Australia’s botanical heritage and sharing its ecological significance with the wider community.
To be successful in this role you will have:
A relevant qualification in horticulture awarded by an Australian institution or equivalent or relevant experience in a field of technical work closely related to the duties of the position.
Demonstrated experience in staff, leadership and change management.
Expertise in the horticulture and display of Australian native plants.
Well-developed written and oral communication skills and proven ability to work as part of a team.
An NT Driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one.
An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures
