A Reputable Builder Developer in the Northwest area of Sydney is seeking an accountant with exceptional communication skills. By working together, they hope to nurture you quickly into a client leadership role. The office is based in Bella Vista NSW. Due to extra workload, company is seeking an Accountant to join their team who has worked for a construction company before.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare, examine, and analyse accounting records, financial statements, and reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and relevant regulatory requirements.

Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns, and liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to ensure timely compliance with all tax obligations.

Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements, profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning to support the company’s financial strategy and operational needs.

Monitor project-specific budgets, cost allocations, and expenditures, and provide regular reports to management.

Conduct financial risk assessments and provide strategic recommendations on cost control, investment, and financial planning.

Collaborate with external auditors, accountants, and financial consultants during audits and regulatory reviews.

Develop and implement internal accounting controls, financial procedures, and electronic systems to improve efficiency and mitigate financial risks.

Generate and present monthly management reports, including financial performance analysis, to executive management and the Board of Directors.

Maintain the general ledger and oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.

Administer payroll processing, including timesheet reviews, superannuation contributions, leave tracking, and reconciliation of employee entitlements.

Review subcontractor and supplier invoices, ensure accuracy of billing, resolve any discrepancies, and prevent potential fraudulent activity.

Perform reconciliation of receivables and payables using Xero and other accounting software platforms.

Advise management on business structures, tax planning, and operational financial strategies to support business growth and profitability.

Provide recommendations on the selection and implementation of accounting software and financial systems suitable for construction industry operations.

Estimate project budgets and set appropriate profit margins by analysing the operating costs of each project, including material, labour, and overhead expenses.

Maintain continuous company cash flow by managing weekly income/expenditure forecasts and proactively following up on outstanding receivables from clients and builders.

Collect progress payments in line with agreed credit terms, following the project timeline and completion milestones.

Manage company funds and resolve potential budget overruns or discrepancies against purchase orders.

Attend senior management meetings and provide financial insight to support business decisions, including cost-reduction initiatives and efficiency improvements based on market analysis.

Train junior accounting staff and liaise with other departments to ensure projects are delivered cost-effectively and in line with budget forecasts.

Assist with quarterly BAS reporting and liaise with external tax professionals to ensure accurate reporting of net GST and PAYG withholding.

Maintain internal controls and provide documentation and support during internal and external audits to safeguard company assets.

To be considered you must have:

High Level Intermediate Accountant: 3 years + of experience in an accounting role

Degree in Accounting and must have worked for a construction or manufacturing company.

Strong Communicator: Excellent spoken and written communication skills.

A desire to manage and develop client relationships effectively.

Proficient in all the functionality of MYOB, HANDISOFT & XERO Excellent knowledge of Excel and Word

Preferable Multi language skills Hindi or Punjabi (have big clientele base from sub continental background)
