As part of our expansion and commitment to operational excellence, we are seeking an experienced and qualified Accountant to support the financial and compliance needs of the business.
Position Summary
This role plays a vital part in ensuring NJ Electricals' ongoing financial health and compliance with Australian taxation, corporate, and financial reporting requirements. The Accountant will report directly to the company director and liaise regularly with external financial stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
Assisting in the development and implementation of budgetary and accounting policies tailored to the operational needs of the business
Preparing, analysing, and presenting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements for use by management, board of directors, and regulatory/statutory bodies
Conducting financial investigations and preparing reports on a range of matters, including suspected fraud, tax discrepancies, and operational inefficiencies
Performing internal audits to ensure compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and statutory regulations
Advising management on matters such as mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, purchase and sale of assets, and other strategic financial decisions
Monitoring and evaluating business performance, operating costs, cash flow, and revenue streams to identify opportunities for financial efficiency and risk reduction
Providing assurance on the accuracy of accounting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with ATO and Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) requirements
Preparing and lodging Business Activity Statements (BAS), PAYG, FBT, Superannuation, and company income tax returns
Advising on tax planning, financial structuring, and business operations to improve profitability and ensure full regulatory compliance
Liaising with the ATO, ASIC, financial institutions, brokers, and external auditors as required
Introducing, customising, and maintaining computerised accounting systems and advising management on system selection and integration . Xero,& SIMPRO is a must.
Implementing and maintaining effective internal control systems and processes to safeguard business assets and enhance reporting accuracy
Appraising capital investment projects, including cash flow forecasting and financial risk assessments
Managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll processing, and reconciliation processes to maintain accurate financial records
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
A Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Accounting or a closely related discipline (required)
At least 3 years of relevant full-time work experience in a similar accounting role
Registration or licensing as a professional accountant may be required depending on duties; candidates who are members or pursuing membership of CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants ANZ are strongly encouraged to apply
Demonstrated experience using major accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks
Comprehensive knowledge of Australian accounting standards, income tax law, GST compliance, and corporate regulations
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
Strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills
High-level verbal and written communication abilities for stakeholder engagement
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple priorities
Prior experience in the construction, trade, or electrical contracting industry will be highly regarded
