A well-established Tasmanian engineering business is seeking a skilled Metal Fabricator to join their team. The company operates fabrication and machining workshops on a jobbing basis, specializing in the manufacture, repair, refurbishment, installation, and maintenance of industrial equipment.

Located just 10 minutes south of Hobart, their modern, well-equipped facilities support diverse operations ranging from light to heavy fabrication.

The Metal Fabricator Role

The role involves fabrication and welding of steel, stainless steel, and aluminium components. This includes plate and section-based work, using equipment like CNC plasma cutting, plate rolls, brake press, bandsaws, and various welding processes (MIG, TIG, stick). Projects range from one-off items to large-scale projects and breakdown work.

Key welding requirements span from general-purpose applications to coded welding for quality-critical components.

Responsibilities:

Setup and operate fabricating machines, including plate rolls, bandsaws, flame cutters, and presses.

Setup and operate welding equipment such as MIG, TIG, and stick.

Fabricate steel, aluminium, and stainless-steel components from engineering drawings.

Refurbish and repair plant and equipment.

Assist in training apprentices.

Key Requirements:

Strong commitment to safe work practices.

Fabrication trade qualification preferred

Experience with mild steel MIG welding and fabrication.

Proven experience in an industrial jobbing environment.

Ability to deliver quality work on time.

Pass drug and alcohol screening.

A positive outcome on a skills assessment issued by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) is highly desirable, but not essential. Please indicate on your application if you have this.
