Position Overview

The Draftsperson will encompass all aspects of concept design, project briefing documentation, contract administration, and quality control of projects entering into the planning phase of design.

The Draftsperson is required to work with Project Managers and stakeholders to develop a works brief which can then be conceptualised into a design sketch and concept plan that can then be refined in consultation with stakeholders. The design brief and plans are critical for; the development Professional Services (Architectural and Engineering) and Construction scopes as well as Quantity Surveys, and Progressing concepts through the approval process and project phase.

The position will also be responsible for:

  • Developing the workpoint seating plans across all the Courts Registries.
  • The development of a full accurate floor plan library across the Courts buildings.

The role provides leadership, coordination, expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders, while managing the delivery of concept designs that are high quality and align with sustainable construction processes, DDA standards and Work Health and Safety.

Key accountabilities of the Draftsperson include:

  • The preparation of design documentation from the initial brief through to “Concept Design” stage, ensuring accuracy and timely completion. Monitor and review design documents to resolve any discrepancies, errors, and clashes.
  • Preparing architectural sketches and concept plans, including general arrangement and furniture floor plans, elevations and details, using AutoCAD and other drafting tools.
  • Updating and revising drawings as needed, taking into account changes in design and feedback from clients and other stakeholders.
  • Support all aspects of the development of works brief, design sketches through to the finalisation of concept design.
  • Drive handover of as-built documentation assuring accuracy and updating of document library.
  • Assist the Project Manager with oversight of the development of all stages of the schematic design process including layouts, 3D renderings/sketches, scaled and detailed construction documentation adhering to the Australian Building Codes and Standards.
  • Responsible for developing the workpoint seating plans across all the Courts Registries with the aim for these to be utilised in a new workpoint and facilities booking system.
  • Responsibility for the integrity of floor plans across the Courts buildings, which will include merging of part floor fit-out plans into a whole of floor plan.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to gather information, resolve issues, and maintain good working relationships.
  • Assist in the supply detailed tender documentation packages and drawings for quoting purposes.
  • Maintaining organised and accurate records of all drawings and project files.
  • Submit and adhere to a project plan of activities related to the:
  • Updating of workpoint seating plans
  • The development and finalisation of a plan library

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated application of the design process as it applies to architectural projects. This includes effective verbal, graphic and written communication skills and the ability to document designs, prepare tenders and construction documentation for court building fit-outs.
  • Demonstrated experience in computer aided drafting programs including AutoCAD and or SketchUP and Revit or similar and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated exemplary communication skills, with an ability to confidently influence and engage with stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and seniority.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate, create and direct a high-quality drafting approach within a public sector environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working flexibly in a team to deliver design outcomes and a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and contractors at all levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant codes of practice in the building industry which forms part of the building code of Australia including:
  • Relevant Australian Standards for materials,
  • Methods of construction
  • Prescriptive codes of architectural design including:
  • Building design concepts,
  • Practices,
  • Procedures,
  • Final documents,
  • Specifications,
  • Materials and
  • Construction practices.

Eligibility

Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:

  1. Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship.
  2. Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check, and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment.
  3. Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
