About the role

We have an exciting and unique opportunity for a Process Operations Engineer to join Icon Water.

This role has primary responsibility for providing process engineering for the Major Plant Operations team at wastewater and water treatment plants. Process Operations Engineering support is provided through monitoring plant performance and reporting on it, developing operating strategies, preparation of guidelines and manuals, process optimisation and the resolution of process related operational and maintenance problems.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Contribute to process management for the water and wastewater treatment plant in accordance with the process operating plans for treatment facilities, which define facility process capability, performance, regulatory requirements and environmental impacts.

Provide advice and direction to the shift operators in the operation and process control of the water and wastewater treatment plants.

Develop tactical operating plans to guide day-to-day activities including treatment operations to enable process and equipment shutdowns and event response.

Assist in the development and review of shutdown and isolation plans for the water and wastewater treatment plants.

Provide assistance in the development of high level technical advice to key stakeholders regarding operations and impacts relevant to the broader organisation

Collect and review treatment process data and provide advice on trends and impacts of trends. Prepare dashboards, reports and briefs on findings.

Provide advice on operational response plans & support during incidents and emergencies that impact the water and wastewater treatment plants.

Facilitate effective working relationships between operations delivery, maintenance teams and other delivery partners

Assist in the performance of complex on-site tests and adjustments where necessary including, process sampling and operational analysis and adjustments.

Review performance of treatment process facilities and implement high level improvements driving benefits in operations service delivery.

Undertake plant inspections and detect and advise on remedies for process and equipment issues.

Monitor the operational performance of treatment plants for licence performance and compliance.

Prepare internal and external reports and briefs relating to compliance requirements.

Review and validate operational performance data

Development and variation of routine laboratory sampling programmes and in special sampling programmes.

Assist with the development, implementation and continuous improvement of procedures and work instructions and checksheets to support and specify the conduct of treatment operations.

Undertake trials and investigations into treatment processes, in conjunction with Operations staff, with respect to process optimisation and variation, and performance improvements within treatment plants.

Undertake investigations, input to designs and documentation, manage minor projects, prepare estimates and reports to ensure efficient and safe operation of LMWQCC, SWTP and GWTP

Participate in projects relating to the planning of new, and the review of existing, treatment facilities. This will involve the provision of operational perspective in design and technical advice, plant process data and operational process capability requirements.

Contribute to the development of strategies for wastewater and/or water treatment development providing operational perspective.

Participate fully in all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment management. Assist in development of safe working practices / procedures and process safety management as required, in identification and removal of safety hazards in the workplace.

Other duties within the employee’s skill, competence and training.

Our ideal candidate will possess:

Engineering qualifications in a relevant field or experience in delivering operational and maintenance support in a technical environment

Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, technologies and equipment

Understanding of maintenance program planning and delivery

Prior project delivery experience with commissioning and integration responsibilities.

Technical report writing and data analysis, interpretation of analytical results, reporting and procedural writing in a technical environment.

Stakeholder engagement across multiple teams and different disciplines.

Experience in communicating to a variety of audiences.
