About us
We are currently seeking a lockmaster to join our team here at Cullen Bay. The person we are seeking will be responsible for operating the lock, some general handyman duties and cleaning and security patrols. You must be someone that can work on their own and un-supervised, be mechanically minded, have a good work ethic, show initiative, and have an interest and understanding of the marina and marine vessels. All relevant training for this position is done on site, however you must hold a current drivers license and have experience in small boat handling. This is a full time rostered position alternative between night and day 12 hour shifts. Qualifications & experience
Your work history should show a record and demonstrated history of • working positively with the public and being capable of managing difficult situations • mechanical aptitude and capacity to use hand and power tools • ability to work without supervision but also work co-operatively as a member of a team
Capacity to understand company policies and to make decisions based on those • capacity to provide clear directions to others, especially when safety is paramount • enjoy an outdoor life and be acclimatized to the Darwin weather
Previous nautical experience be it professional or recreational is an advantage, however full trading in all facets of the position including marina activities is provided
be available for shift work.
Tasks & responsibilities
Operate the marina lock to allow vessels to proceed safely in/out of the marina • Drive Estate vehicles, including the workboat, as required. • Perform patrols of the marina and estate on foot/vehicle/boat by day and night. • Maintain the lock machinery including working at heights and over water
Support outside contractors in the maintenance of machinery • Clean estate facilities including public toilets, jetty areas, footpaths, and other public areas using pressure washers and other machinery, prepping and painting of lock machinery • Monitor CCTV security cameras from the office and in vehicle.
Monitor and assist the public and report antisocial behaviors to authorities. • Operate a VHF marine radio. • Manage rubbish disposal across the estate, including removal of bins and operation of tailgate loader on the marina utility vehicle.
Support special events in the public areas, including providing guidance to food vendors, visiting entertainers and small events. • Support other estate staff including gardeners in achieving outcomes for the estate. • Assist vessel crews with berthing where appropriate.
Provide marina inductions to visiting vessel crews. • Provide vessel control on the ferry jetty.
Liaise with Border Force, Bio Security, divers, and government authorities. • Provide administration of vessel movements including emails, written reports, and updating of records • Operate a computer to update records, access emails, access diaries.
Work 12-hour shifts, currently changeovers are at 0530h and 1730h but this may change in future to suit operational demands. • Average working hours pw are 42, (lunch breaks paid).
