Tech layoffs. Doing more with less. Vibe coding.
There’s no doubt the market has changed with a shift to maximising profits.
In many organisations, that means resilience has suffered.
But the smart ones know resilience is integral to customer retention. Baking resilience into engineering culture early also means you can build faster.
All of this leads to long-term, healthy profit margins. And in turn, happy, productive engineering teams.
If you’re looking for the latter, then this role is for you.
"Reliability isn't a cost. And it's not a support role. It's an integral strategy for customer satisfaction & retention". That comes from the CEO.
Which is why they’re investing in SRE. The expectation is they’ll triple their user base in the next three years. They’re already global and already have millions of users.
So what’s it like on the ground here?
Strategy led by an ex-Google SRE. So you can trust things are being done ‘the right way’.
An environment thats 96% cloud-hosted, all GCP and AWS, 1000's of microservices, heavily Kube centric etc. All Java and Go (we're open to other langauges). You're not migrating legacy tech. You're solving problems, iterating modern tech and best practicies.
Zero on-call work. Other teams will support you there, so you won’t have to worry PagerDuty chirping at you in the middle of the night. A hybrid model, two days in the office. Nobody is watching the clock.
A good sized team. Big enough and established so you’re surrounded by smart people and have support. Small enough that you can still make an impact.
An 'open door' policy. Access to anyone and everyone including the CTO, VPs and different product and engineering squads. Everyone's friendly, so these conversations won't leave you feeling uncomfortable.
What might impact look like?
That's up to you. There's multiple roles open, we've filled one so far. There's approval for another three. That means you're getting in at a time where you'll have a lot of influence over the work you're doing. Something more software-centric? More systems and infrastucture? Chaos engineering? Developing the AI startegy? It's a target rich environment someone who prefers the engineering side of SRE.
What experience do you need?
You might already be an SRE looking for like-minded people. You might come from a Platform or DevOps Engineering background and want to leverage your skills in a new way. Or you might be a SWE who advocates for resilience and enjoys working on performance tuning and load testing.
If that sounds like you, and you’d like to learn more, contact Julien Bicknell at The Onset.
