About the role

As Senior Accounting Lead, you'll take ownership of delivering core accounting services, drive month-end processes, and provide strategic accounting guidance for a wholesale energy trading business. You'll be the go-to subject matter expert for complex technical accounting matters, including derivative products and compliance reporting.
This role is central to ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across financial operations, while also coaching and supporting other finance team members and contributing to strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

• 
  Lead month-end close processes, including preparation of journals and reconciliations
• 
  Provide technical accounting guidance and develop accounting position papers
• 
  Deliver continuous improvements and process enhancements across the finance function
• 
  Support external audit processes and liaise with auditors as required
• 
  Prepare regulatory and compliance reporting
• 
  Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and inventory accounting for gas and green certificates
• 
  Contribute to projects such as deal capture implementation and support wider finance initiatives
• 
  Coach and support junior team members across the finance function

What you'll bring:

• 
  CA qualification (or equivalent) and a degree in Finance or Accounting
• 
  5+ years of experience in financial reporting or financial controls roles
• 
  Strong technical accounting skills with a hands-on, problem-solving approach
• 
  High attention to detail and stakeholder engagement skills
• 
  Experience in the energy sector or familiarity with commodity/derivative accounting is highly desirable
