The Opportunity:
The Family and Youth Therapeutic Engagement is a critical member of the Targeted Early Intervention Team. The role if primarily responsible for:
- Providing person centred therapeutic support and a strengths-based, collaborative approach to assisting young people where the mental health of the young person is sustained by factors in the family unit.
- Provide behaviour changing interventions to assist individuals to reduce or cease harmful behaviours;
- Assist young people to recognise and utilise their resilience, capacity and alternate healthy coping strategies;
- Assist young people to establish healthier lifestyles
- Provide family therapy and supports to strengthen relationships; and
- Assist participants to develop better coping mechanisms
- Provide knowledge of the youth sector and an ability to connect young people and their families to ongoing additional supports where required in community and school-based settings

Essentials:
- Tertiary degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or similar as well as substantial work experience in child and adolescent mental health settings
- Eligibility for membership of relevant professional association or membership of registration body or working towards same
- Demonstrated evidence based clinical skills in assessment and working with young people and their families/carers in a mental health and/ or drug and alcohol setting
- An understanding of the needs of young people with a mental illness, including engagement with the mental health service system.
- Ability to advocate for improved accessibility for young people across a number of service systems
- Ability to provide effective family interventions
- Ability to develop, manage and monitor performance outcomes for programs and activities
- Highly developed interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, including sound oral and writing skills.
- An understanding of and commitment to Child Protection legislation and OH&S principles
- Current Unrestricted Drivers Licence and current Senior First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
