Health & Safety Officer – Major Construction Project
Location: Hove, South Australia
Pay Rate: $50–$60 per hour (including casual loading), based on experience
Duration: 18-month project with genuine temp-to-perm opportunity
Take the Lead in Safety on a Landmark Project
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Officer (HSO) to join our client's highly regarded construction company on a major development project in Hove, SA. Backed by a strong reputation in the industry, our client is known for delivering high-quality projects, prioritising safety, and fostering a positive, collaborative team environment.
This is your chance to step into a leadership role on a project at its early stages and play a key part in shaping the safety culture from the ground up. With a strong 18-month pipeline and the potential for a long-term future with a top-tier builder, this role offers more than just a paycheck — it offers career progression, autonomy, and impact.
What You'll Be Doing
As the site HSO, you will be the go-to person for all things safety. You’ll work closely with site management and subcontractors to ensure the safety of every person who steps onto site — and you’ll be empowered to influence real change. Your responsibilities will include:
Managing and maintaining site safety, compliance, and safety culture
Inducting all staff and contractors and ensuring safe site access daily
Keeping all personnel and subcontractors compliant on safety management software
Overseeing all documentation and compliance processes, including SWMS
Collaborating with the broader project team to identify and implement improvements
Supporting the site team with hands-on assistance and labouring tasks where needed
Operating machinery (telehandler, forklift, etc.), if licensed — highly regarded
What We're Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is confident, reliable, and passionate about creating safe worksites. You’ll bring:
Previous experience as an HSO or similar safety role in construction
Solid understanding of WHS legislation and on-site compliance systems
Strong communication skills to liaise with subcontractors and staff
Ability to lead safety from the front while being a team player
Tickets to operate plant equipment (desirable but not essential)
A “can-do” attitude and willingness to pitch in when needed
Strong reliability, punctual and a commitment to full-time hours — we need someone who’s ready to show up consistently and see the project through
What’s In It for You?
Competitive hourly rate: $50–$60/hour including casual loading
Work with a respected builder on a high-profile project
Long-term project with job security and consistency
Be part of a supportive, values-driven team culture
Gain exposure to all phases of a large construction development
