ABOUT THE QTU
Established in 1889, the QTU is the registered industrial organisation (or union) representing state school teachers and principals throughout Queensland. The Union is now the professional and industrial voice of more than 48,000 members including teachers, principals and TAFE educators in Queensland state primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, TAFE institutes and other educational facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role contributes to the QTU’s success by ensuring that the Union observes and operates under WHS. This includes ensuring workplace compliance within WHS frameworks, oversight of all workplace health and safety aspects of all QTU offices across Queensland, providing and coordinating workplace health and safety services for the organisation, performing duties of the Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator, and ensuring policies and processes remain up to date. Occasional travel within Queensland may be required from time to time.
This position will facilitate the QTU’s Workplace Health and Safety network through the following processes:
Organise four (4) Workplace Health and Safety Committee meetings per year.
Perform Secretariat duties for the Committee meetings.
Organise professional development opportunities within the meetings.
Provide advice and support on departmental Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing procedures, guidelines and other resources.
Conduct proactive risk assessments and inspections to identify and hazards and unsafe or unsatisfactory workplace health and safety conditions.
Develop, promote and deliver WHS training on various health and safety topics to employees
Develop, revise and maintain effective communication links with the WHS Committee through reporting and feedback channels.
Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and best practices.
ABOUT YOU
A minimum 5 years of WHS experience.
Cert IV Workplace Healthy and Safety.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Experience writing WHS reports and policies.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Culturally aware, customer oriented, and a team player.
Passionate about safety and people development.
To be successful in this position you must have a Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety and the ability to undertake the Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator certification.
