Since its establishment in 1972, Leo Cussen Centre for Law has been and continues to be recognised as a centre of excellence for practical legal training and continuing professional development for entry-level lawyers through to senior legal practitioners.

Our purpose is to provide high quality education, training and professional development to strengthen and support the administration of justice and the legal system.

Leo Cussen is undergoing a period of rapid change and strategic development. One aspect of this is the expansion of the Professional Placement Program for the Practical Legal Training course (PLT) in all Australian jurisdictions where Leo Cussen has a presence.

This position is responsible for the coordination and administrative support of the professional placement program, with a primary focus on operational coordination and graduate experience. It plays a key role in ensuring smooth program delivery while also contributing to broader engagement with the legal profession to support the growth of placement opportunities.

A further key aspect of the position is engagement with the wider legal community to develop and expand placement opportunities for our graduates. This includes developing links with new and existing organisations in the legal profession to grow the pool of placement opportunities for our students.

The Professional Placement Coordinator will also engage with Leo Cussen graduates to support them before, during, and after their professional placements.

The role is offered as an initial 12-month Fixed Term Contract with the potential to become ongoing.

This is a unique opportunity to join Leo Cussen in an exciting period of expansion, and to play a critical role in the development and growth of the Professional Placement Program.

Reporting to the Head, Industry Engagement & Partnerships, you will deliver on these specific areas:

Coordinate and approve work placements for PLT students in all Australian jurisdictions where Leo Cussen has a presence.

Source and allocate placements for students who opt for that service.

Monitor the compliance and quality of placements and appropriately act on feedback received from students and placement providers.

Provide placement providers and graduates with support and guidance – including the delivery of presentations and the development of information materials.

Engage with organisations to develop new and existing long-term relationships to maintain, strengthen and grow placement options for students.

Attend networking events, career fairs, and other functions.

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following qualifications and experience:

Minimum of 2+ years HR/Recruitment experience in the professional services sector (preferably the legal industry), or 2+ years post-admission experience as a legal practitioner.

A background, or demonstrated skillset, in industry engagement or business development.

Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and excellent ability to work within a team environment.

Demonstrated experience in, or ability to learn, Salesforce or other similar CRM software.

Proficiency in MS Office.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the current legal industry landscape, particularly in relation to current careers and recruitment practices would be highly regarded.

If successful, we offer the following benefits:

A values-driven organisation where you feel a part of a strong community

High impact role – you will influence our ongoing transformational journey of Leo Cussen

Additional paid leave days between Christmas and New Year

Employee Assistance and Wellness Programs (EAP)

Supportive work environment and developmental opportunities

This is a Melbourne-based role with the option to work on a hybrid basis subject to agreement. Successful candidates will undertake interviews and reference checks.
