About the Role
The Cyber Security Operations Officer is responsible for identifying, investigating, and responding to cyber security incidents in line with established procedures and maintaining the cyber hygiene of council systems through vulnerability management and auditing, and providing awareness training of staff.
Key responsibilities:
- Identify, assess and respond to all cyber security threats targeting Townsville City Council.
- Monitor and investigate all alerts generated in the Councils security systems.
- Escalate cyber security alerts according to council Incident Response process.
- Manage the identification and tracking of vulnerabilities within the council network and collaborating with technical teams to mitigate those vulnerabilities.
- Support auditing of council systems to assess potential organisational cyber security risks and develop protocols and guidelines around those processes.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of cyber security controls.
- Conduct security awareness training programs for staff.
- Collaborate with IT, Business Partners and other departments to ensure security best practices are followed.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Extensive IT security experience, in an information security role.
- A tertiary qualification in Cyber Security, or equivalent work experience; postgraduate qualifications in Cyber Security is preferred.
- Appropriate Cyber/Information Security related certification is desirable.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the Council.
- Experience with information security frameworks such as ISO 27001 and ACSC Essential 8.
- Demonstrated ability to detect and analyse Cyber Security incidents to determine impact and severity of an event and articulate the business impact, risks and treatment strategies.
- Strong problem-solving skills to analyse risks and requirements and relate them to appropriate security controls to meet Councils objectives and outcomes.
