Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

New roles await

The Protective Security Team assists to protect the Agency’s people, participants, visitors, information, systems, assets, and reputation. The team provides advice, awareness, education and policy that supports the Agency in complying with Australian Government protective security policy. The team is also responsible for security screening, security clearances were applicable and management of sensitive security matters.

We have an exciting opportunity for an APS6 Communications Security Officer and APS6 Security Systems Officer to join our team.

APS6 Communications Security Officer

As the APS6 Communications Security Officer you will support the Agency Security Adviser and Chief Security Officer in identifying trends and providing advice, guidance and options on security matters, ensuring compliance with Australian Government security frameworks and associated legislation.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Undertaking the duties of the Agency Communications Security (COMSO) or Deputy COMSO
  • Managing the appropriate storage and recording of security Intelligence reporting and accountable material in the Protective and Cyber Security Branch in line with Australian Government requirements.
  • Providing operational support in the conducting of Security Investigations in the Agency.
  • Providing the Protective and Cyber Security Branch with support that ensures overall corporate governance, compliance and assurance contributing towards achieving outcomes and goals.

APS6 Security Systems Officer

As the APS6 Security Systems Officer you will be responsible for delivering security risk assessments, security compliance inspections and security outreach and training programs; including Agency security systems.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Operating and administering the Agency’s security alarm, electronic access control, closed-circuit television and electronic KeySafe systems.
  • Assisting with reporting for the management of security incidents, including matters impacting the organisation’s security.
  • Providing policy advice about physical and administrative security and develop recommendations.
  • Undertaking continuous improvement to identify system efficiencies and improvements and promoting a positive security culture by implementing initiatives and ensuring awareness of organisational policy.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role in the Australian Government.

They are a problem solver and proactively seek solutions to issues as they arise.

They excel at working closely with stakeholders, with demonstrated experience in building and maintaining productive relationships at all levels.

The have a contemporary attitude towards people with disabilities and the impact on individuals.

Previous experience in Australian Government Protective Security or consummate field, and/or Certificate IV in Government Security or relevant qualification is highly desirable.

Ability to obtain negative vetting security clearance required.

While this role is ideally performed from Deakin - ACT, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
