The Opportunity

The Financial Controller is an integral member of the Finance Team and works closely with the Deputy CFO, Executive, Senior Management, and committees to deliver the financial management of the company.

Leading a team of six, there is a wide range of interesting technical challenges to get your teeth into as Village operate similarly to a listed company. With a broad range of investors to keep informed about project performance, Village also operates project syndicates and other investments under a financial services licence.

With Village’s continued growth, the Financial Controller will play a lead role in building the process, systems and reporting ready for higher volume construction work. There will also be a strong handover period with the long-term Financial Controller recently promoted internally.

The Role

The Financial Controller is responsible for delivery of the key financial accounting functions in the context of a consolidated group with reporting similar to that of a public company.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive the preparation of all financial reporting including management accounts, construction/project accounting, annual consolidated financial statements, the annual report and syndicate financial statements, and manage the audit process
  • Oversee and maintain the Company’s finance and payroll systems and make recommendations on improvements and enhancements, adding to a culture of continuous improvement
  • Provide leadership and management to the finance team of 6 staff including payroll, business systems, project accounting, financial analysis, and accounts
  • Support the provision of strategic financial recommendations to the Board/Executive including supporting long term business and financial planning
  • Oversight of taxation compliance including annual income tax, business activity statements, FBT and payroll tax returns and support the work of external accountants on tax compliance and planning
  • Establish positive working relationships with the Board, Executive, Shareholders, Investors, Financiers, Auditors and other stakeholders

The Ideal Person

To be successful in this role you will be experienced in a commercial Financial Controller (or equivalent) role in a medium or large capital-intensive business (ideally in property/construction/development).

Alternatively, you are a Financial Controller working in a complex group of consolidated companies in a project-based industry (e.g. infrastructure, energy, or engineering).

You will pride yourself on your strong commercial accounting knowledge and ability to lead a positive team culture towards a strong financial future for an organisation. Having a pragmatic, proactive approach and sound communication skills, and you will enjoy opportunities to demonstrate commercial acumen. This opportunity will reward a positive, energetic, and committed CA/CPA with opportunities to enhance your professional, personal and financial future.

Salary / Rate

  • $180K - $230K package + bonus and access to employee share scheme
  • This position is located in the newly renovated head office in Canberra City Opposite the Street Theatre (ANU)
