Position Details:

Location: Gayndah, North Burnett

Term: Full-time Maximum Term – (1 year)

Schedule: 9-day Fortnight (includes 1 x rostered day off per fortnight)

Benefit: Study on the job and attain a Certificate III in Business (Administration)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Council has received funding under the Queensland Government Skilling Queenslanders for Work – First Start Program to introduce an exciting traineeship opportunity. If you are looking for an entry level position, and/or an opportunity to learn some new skills and have a keen interest in your community, then a Local Government traineeship could be the job for you!

Trainees will get to complete a nationally recognised Certificate level qualification while learning valuable skills and gaining on-the-job experience.

As a Trainee Administration Officer in the Corporate and Community Section, you will get the opportunity to learn an administrative skill set in our Local Government environment, while undertaking study to attain a Certificate III in Business Administration.

As a Trainee for Corporate and Community you will be exposed to the following services for our organisation:

This traineeship will allow you to further develop your administration, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, as well as exposing you to a range of essential duties such as:

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:

Demonstrated commitment to work as an effective, positive team member in an environment that encourages staff to maintain a self-motivated, proactive approach and which supports both professional and personal development.

Developing interpersonal skills and ability to contribute to a cohesive team environment and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Basic numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to provide and maintain effective and quality customer service.

Ability to work effectively under close supervision to manage time to achieve defined outcomes.

Attention to detail and ability to perform work with accuracy.

Basic data entry and word processing skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint). Experience with Council’s Information Management Systems (MagiQ Documents, MagiQ Enterprise) is desirable - or ability to rapidly acquire same.

Developing knowledge of, or ability to acquire knowledge of Council’s standard work practices, procedures and policies relevant to the work area (e.g. clerical duties including reception, operating office equipment, prepare routine correspondence, reports, agendas and minutes of meetings, and to manage diaries / appointment schedules of others).

Ability to exercise sound judgement, initiative, confidentiality and sensitivity in the performance of work.

Ability and commitment to complete a relevant Certificate III within the terms of the traineeship, (including theory and practical work modules and attendance at required training sessions)


WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?


The First Start Program primarily targets young Queensland school leavers and disadvantaged job seekers, to be eligible you must be:

Aged 15 years or older and no longer at school

Able to meet citizen, residency and visa requirements to undertake a traineeship.

The North Burnett Regional Council is established as a body corporate under the Local Government Act 2009

The Council came into existence on the 15 March, 2008 following the Queensland local government reform process which resulted in the amalgamation of 6 Shires – Monto, Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Perry and Biggenden , into the new North Burnett Regional Council.

The elected Council is the law making body and consists of the Mayor and 6 Councillors. The administration of Council is headed by the Chief Executive Officer.
