About the role

Reporting to the National Head of Medical Education and Innovation, you will assist in the planning and organisation of the School of Medicine, Fremantle MD Program, including effective strategic management. The Fremantle domain lead also has responsibility for the Aboriginal Health team on the Fremantle Campus and the Kimberley Centre for Remote Medical Training (KCRMT) in Broome.

To perform this position, it is essential that the person be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is a genuine occupational qualification, under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Applicants are requested to demonstrate their Indigenous heritage in addition to addressing the selection criteria.

Key Responsibilities

Maintaining and growing the connections, networks, relationships and collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Deliver culturally appropriate ways of working in teaching and learning.

Leading and managing the delivery, assessment, review and ongoing development of the Aboriginal Health curriculum in conjunction with domain lead.

Managing the recruitment, retention and graduation of Aboriginal medical students.

Overseeing the management of Aboriginal medical student issues, wellbeing and access to wrap-around supports as needed.

Significant and sustained contribution to the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or professional practice in the discipline at the divisional, University and national level.

Qualifications, skills & experience

Medical qualification registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of a relevant professional body OR possession of a PHD OR Masters level qualification in a relevant field with at least 5 years teaching experience in the Higher Education Sector.

Experience of managing teams within complex organisational structures.

Demonstrated experience of a high level of pastoral care to students.

Strong people management, excellent communication and influencing skills.

Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, prioritise tasks, manage workload and meet deadlines in a busy education environment.

Computer literacy with standard MS Office programs and use of relevant digital technology.

Supporting documentation may include, but is not limited to, a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council.
