The client

Our client is a leading provider of end-to-end tailored transport and storage solutions for the mining, oil and gas, and industrial sectors. Their products ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation and storage of valuable materials across challenging environments. As they continue to expand nationally and globally, they are looking for an experienced Operations & Supply Chain Manager to join their leadership team.

The role

The Operations & Supply Chain Manager will play a crucial role in scaling a sustainable supply chain that ensures finished products meet Australian and International standards. This includes managing and optimising overseas steel fabrication and production processes as well as international and local distribution operations. Additionally, you will drive product quality standards and foster strong business relationships with suppliers across Asia. The role requires a practical and strategic thinker with strong people leadership and supplier management skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, including engineering, project delivery, and sales. In the role, you will:

Key responsibilities

  • Manage international and local suppliers (Steel Fabricators) to ensure all aspects of the fabrication and manufacturing processes meet Australian and company standards
  • Identify and develop new supplier relationships internationally and locally, which will involve travel
  • Managing major projects from initial quoting through to the delivery of the finished product
  • Record, measure and review supplier performance to ensure products meet critical QA standards and deliver finished products on time and in full
  • Develop systems and processes that assist the company in optimising a complex supply chain function that encompasses multiple countries
  • Manage the warehouse and distribution team, ensuring accurate inventory management, efficient order fulfilment, and seamless supply chain and logistics operations.
  • Record, measure and review supplier performance to ensure products meet critical QA standards and deliver finished products on time and in full
  • Collaborate closely with the sales and project delivery team to coordinate inventory needs, prioritise orders, and ensure the timely delivery of finished products to the Brisbane and Perth warehouses
  • Analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement strategic initiatives to drive continuous improvement
  • Present monthly reports to the senior leadership team and attend monthly S&OP meetings
  • Collaborate with the sales and engineering teams to understand customer requirements and manage the workflow with suppliers to ensure products are manufactured and delivered on time and to the highest quality
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to optimise productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall efficiencies across operations and supply chain
  • Work with warehousing and distribution teams to implement and maintain best practices in the warehouse environment for OH&S, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
  • Develop and mentor team members, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and professional growth

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations & Supply Chain, Business Administration or related field.
  • Proven operations and supply chain management experience, focusing on the fabrication of steel or engineered products
  • Experience with steel fabrication and production processes, with an understanding of different types of welding, is preferred as you will be managing international and local supplier relationships
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve common goals
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritise, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP), warehouse management systems (WMS) or material resource planning (MRP) software
  • Experience working with the Engineering and Sales departments to bring new products to market
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse data, identify trends, and implement data-driven solutions that assist the organisation in improving supply chain functions
  • Commitment to LEAN, continuous improvement and a passion for driving operational excellence
