About the Opportunity
Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for improving community health outcomes? South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as the Director of Allied Health for Drug Health Services. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead and manage a diverse portfolio, including Court Diversion Programs, Harm Reduction Programs, Intake Services, Counselling Programs, and the Assertive Community Management Team.

As the Director of Allied Health, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership, driving the development and implementation of policies, education, and planning for the clinical operations of Drug Health Services. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-focused healthcare services that are responsive to the evolving needs of our community.

What You'll be Doing
The Director Allied Health is responsible for managing the workforce and the portfolios relating to Court Diversion Programs, the Harm Reduction Program, the Intake Service, Counselling Programs and the Drug Health/Mental Health Care Navigation/Assertive Community Management Team and Drug and Alcohol Youth Team. The position is also responsible for any professional reporting of allied health staff working in DHS outside of these portfolios.

The Director Allied Health is responsible for strategic and clinical leadership of the allied health teams of Drug Health Services (DHS) across South Western Sydney. South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) DHS provides a healthcare service which is patient focused, equitable and responsive to the changing and developing needs of the communities in South Western Sydney.

In support of our vision it is the aim of DHS to continually improve the health status of the population of SWSLHD and to ensure the development and provision of high-quality health care.

Where You'll Be Working
SWSLHD Drug Health Services operates across the South Western Sydney Local Health District, providing a comprehensive range of treatments and interventions for individuals, families, and carers affected by alcohol and other drug use.

The services include inpatient withdrawal at the 'Corella' unit in Fairfield, the Opioid Treatment Program, outpatient clinics, and specialised teams such as the Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Team and the Youth Service. Recognised for their excellence, SWSLHD Drug Health Services has been a finalist in the NSW Health Excellence in Allied Health Awards, highlighting their commitment to high-quality care and innovation.

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience and demonstrated leadership and management of clinical services including sound knowledge of patient safety and quality frameworks.
  2. Demonstrated experience in financial management, risk management and WH&S.
  3. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in strategic and business planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting.
  5. Sound knowledge of key issues relating to Needle and Syringe Programs, Counselling and Court Diversion Programs.
  6. Experience in managing complex and contentious issues with sound decision making ability.
  7. Demonstrated experience in effective collaboration with service providers including government and non government stakeholders.
  8. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
