This is an exciting opportunity to join the Family Support Network team, which is delivered in partnership between Koya Aboriginal Corporation and Parkerville Children and Youth Care. The Family Support Network supports families across the Perth-Midland area.
To be eligible for this role, you must Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, as permitted under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) and be able to demonstrate:
A strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and ways of working.
Minimum Certificate 3 in Community Services or other relevant discipline, and/or extensive experience working with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and gender identities, within a community setting.
Knowledge and understanding of the needs of Aboriginal families and experience in applying that knowledge to the delivery of culturally safe service activities.
Experience and knowledge of trauma-informed practice in relation to children and families.
Demonstrated empathy and sensitivity working with vulnerable children and families from diverse backgrounds and circumstance
Strong communication skills with children and their families in situations of high stress and conflict, which is effective, professional and culturally sensitive.
Experience in developing and designing case work goals and actions, which support families to achieve their goals and address any child protection concerns.
The ability to work flexible hours when needed, including some evening and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
Provide support for families and empowering them to build on their strengths, in order to overcome the difficulties they are experiencing.
Actively engage with families to achieve family and case plan goals providing in-home practical ‘hands on’ support.
Work with individuals and families with a focus on developing living skills, parenting skills and family and household management skills.
Provide education, appropriate modelling techniques and other supportive services, as outlined in the family’s support plan
Provide practical and emotional support for families experiencing short or long-term difficulties, neglect, abuse and/or trauma.
