We are looking for a Family Support Worker to join our Family Care Support Service program to provide assessment and case management of families and individuals (where there are complex needs including mental health, disability, drug and alcohol and child protection issues) to prevent homelessness, increase self-reliance and build capacity to live independently.
Our ideal applicant will have:
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Community Services or Children's Services and/or equivalent experience working in this field
- Demonstrated relevant experience in family support or caring roles with families and children
- Relevant knowledge of child development, the impact of abuse and trauma, and how this can impact family functioning, particularly for Aboriginal families and children
- Demonstrated experience in group facilitation
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of evidence-informed and evidence-based client centered interventions
- Sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety
- Demonstrated understanding of "child safe" environment
- High level of interpersonal skills and good written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a team
- Experience in supporting families with issues such as mental illness, substance abuse, family violence, child protection and/or disabilities
- Cultural competency for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities
- Current Working with Children Check
- Current satisfactory National Police Clearance
- Current WA Driver’s licence
- Current First Aid Certificate
The Role
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Establish rapport with parents and children in order to develop trust to achieve the goals set in the case plan
- Work collaboratively with Case Workers, CPFS and family to identify a family's strengths, establish goals for the programs and review progress. Provide the Case Worker with detailed feedback in relation to the work undertaken
- Develop and implement strategies and approaches to achieve the identified goals of the case plan
- Provide detailed observational reports at the end of sessions and participate in the preparation of reports during the intervention for case reviews and feedback to referring agencies
- Assist in developing and maintaining positive relationships with parents and children
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local service providers to enable new and existing projects, programs and services to be developed and implemented
- Participate in the implementation of best practice in parenting and family support interventions and contribute to reviews and continuous practice improvement
