The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is a Victorian Government statutory authority whose role is to work with and support natural resource management agencies, Traditional Owners and local communities to improve sustainable land use, biodiversity and water resources management extending from Ballarat south through the Western District Lakes and Victorian Volcanic Plains including Colac and Geelong, through the Otway Ranges to the coast along the Great Ocean Road.
About the opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small dedicated spatial team working across a wide array of natural resource management projects and initiatives.
As the Spatial Information Officer, you will contribute to the ongoing development of Corangamite CMA's mature and embedded spatial systems and help apply spatial solutions and other emerging technologies in innovative ways. You will provide key support and advice to the Information Analyst in the ongoing design, development, day to day management, maintenance and use of Corangamite CMA spatial data and information systems including ArcGIS Online and associated applications, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS and Power BI. Through applying specialist skills in the development, refinement and delivery of processes, you will help enhance how Corangamite CMA capture, manage and visualise data related to Natural Resource Management (NRM) projects. These systems are critical in supporting all CCMA staff – and many of our external partners – in the planning, on-ground delivery and reporting of our waterway, land, and floodplain management functions.
You will also ensure that spatial data is curated, accessible and thoroughly documented and that data standards and policies are adhered to by both internal staff and external partners. You will assist Corangamite CMA to continually improve in the way that it supports its activities through innovative and effective use of spatial information for its staff, partners and the community.
The role is full time fixed term for 18 months and will support time spent in the field with our staff to ensure that spatial systems work to maximum effectiveness. We offer flexible work arrangements and support working from home in combination with working from our main office in Colac and secondary office in Geelong.
Remuneration for the role is $82,313 – 93,893 per annum depending on experience plus superannuation.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
An appropriate tertiary qualification in spatial information science or related with an appreciation for how this can be applied to natural resource management or environmental management.
Experience in the use of the ArcGIS suite of applications across desktop, mobile and web platforms with a focus on:
o ArcGIS Pro
o ArcGIS Online
o ArcGIS Field Maps
o ArcGIS Experience Builder / Web App Builder
o Survey123
Experience in applying programming logic to spatial solutions especially in scripting using Python/Arcade and the use of ArcGIS Notebooks
Thorough understanding of spatial analysis, spatial database design and map production (cartographic design skills)
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical knowledge and provide capacity building to end users on the ArcGIS suite
Demonstrated ability troubleshoot and innovate front-end user experience
Demonstrated ability to solve problems of a complex or technical nature
Demonstrated ability to model the Corangamite CMA’s Approach and the Victorian Public Sector values and behaviours.
The following skills and experience will be highly regarded
Proficiency in advanced Excel use including an understanding of Power BI
Experience in the use of QGIS and related technologies
Sound understanding of natural resource management or environmental science principles.
