Service Transformation is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for providing policy direction, planning and innovation leadership for integrated land and transport outcomes.

The Data and Digital (D&D) division sits within Service Transformation. Data & Digital provides the department with operational excellence for data & digital enabled services and project execution for large scale design and uplift initiatives.

About the Role

This is a Fixed Term, full-time position until 15 April 2026.

Role Specific Requirements -

There will be occassional travel to metropolitan and rural crossing sites. It is essential that the applicant has the flexibility to be available for an early start on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during school terms to provide Level2 user support.

The Senior Spatial Analyst - Transport Safety role provides high quality application design, workflow development, testing and spatial analysis services to the School Crossing Risk Assessment Framework (SCRAF) Project. The position will work under the guidance and direction of the Manager of Network Data and Systems, and be responsible for liaising with internal stakeholders, discussing and documenting requirements, enhancing maps and dashboards to meet user acceptance testing (UAT), building maps and forms, maintaining workflows written in Python scripts, and providing operational project support.

The primary focus of this role will be responsible for the continued development and maintenance of the SCRAF application, based in ArcGIS Online. The Senior Spatial Analyst will be a dedicated project resource on the SCRAF Project and will work closely with the SCRAF implementation team. The SCRAF applications are used by DTP, local government and service provider staff.

Position Outcomes

The successful candidate will be required to successfully deliver and implement an effective SCRAF solution within the ArcGIS Online platform, enhancing system functionality through the development and refinement of maps, forms, and dashboards to meet user acceptance testing (UAT) standards. The candidate will require to maintain critical python-based workflows and manage the ArcGIS online environments to uphold data integrity and auditability. They will be working closely with stakeholders to define technical requirements and improve testing processes, provide technical support, document data processes, and help ensure smooth data management. Candidate must communicate technical information clearly to different audiences and work collaboratively across teams while promoting a safe culture and inclusive work environment.

In addition to the above, the successful candidate must demonstrate resilience and adaptability by staying calm and decisive under pressure, guiding teams through challenges, and swiftly adjusting systems and processes to changing priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Bachelor's level qualification in geomatics, science, engineering, information systems or similar.
  • Sound understanding of ArcGIS applications (specifically ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro)
  • Experience producing high quality web maps, dashboards, and survey forms.
  • Ability to understand business requirements and communicate how feasible they are and how they relate to the platform.

Desirable

  • Knowledge or proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Esri Arcade, JavaScript, R or SQL
  • Knowledge or proficiency in digital tools such as Jira, SharePoint, Visio and similar would be advantageous.
  • Experience working in government and/or producing maps or other communications for public consumption.
  • Experience in open-source technology projects.
  • Experience providing operational project support.
