About us

At Southern Cross University, we're redefining the university experience through revolutionary learning and world-ranked research that changes lives. Our Southern Cross Model is transforming how students learn, creating better outcomes and enriching lives across our stunning campus locations in Lismore, Coffs Harbour, and the Gold Coast.

Our Faculty of Health is at the forefront of education and research in healthcare. With a strong focus on multidisciplinary collaboration, Indigenous-led care models, and community partnerships, we’re committed to delivering excellence across fields such as nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, and more.

About the opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Clinical Trials Manager to lead and manage a stepped care model of two clinical trials that address real-world health challenges. In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee all aspects of clinical trial activity—ensuring high standards of compliance, participant safety, and data integrity—while building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, industry partners, and healthcare providers.

Based at our Lismore campus, you will work closely with the Grant Lead, and other Chief Investigators, providing strategic and operational guidance to ensure trials are delivered on time, within budget, and in line with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Core responsibilities include:

  • Leading trial operations including stakeholder engagement, site negotiation, and implementation
  • Supporting the development of trial protocols, documentation, and compliance processes
  • Coordinating day-to-day activities and schedules of the two trials. The first trial features arts-based and nature-based compassion skills training groups. The second trial features MDMA-assisted therapy.
  • Providing regular progress updates and reporting to internal and external partners
  • Participating in participant screening and recruitment
  • Managing trial budgets, milestones, and resources to meet targets
  • Contributing to a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
About you

You are an experienced clinical trials professional who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative research environment. You bring sound leadership, sharp organisational skills, and a strong understanding of clinical governance and compliance frameworks.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience managing clinical trials
  • Proven experience with clinical trial systems, governance and regulatory bodies (e.g., TGA), contract development, and multi-site coordination
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a professional approach to confidentiality and diplomacy
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A background in mental health trials or trauma-informed practice (desirable)
  • Current ICH-GCP certification
  • A commitment to cultural diversity, safety, and equity in the workplace
Salary and benefits

Our staff benefit from flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work models, generous parental and carer’s leave provisions, wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities. This position is:

  • Full time, fixed-term until 17 December 2027
  • Located at our Lismore campus.
  • HEW Level 7. The full-time equivalent base salary ranges from $104,697 – 113,681 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $133,007.
