Job location

The Lara precinct comprises four correctional centres: Barwon Prison (maximum security), Marngoneet Correctional Centre (medium security), Karreenga (medium security), and the new Western Plains Correctional Centre (maximum security), which will begin receiving people in custody in July 2025. Forensicare staff a multidisciplinary team that provides outpatient secondary mental health services to each of the locations within the precinct.

About the Role:

Ward Clerks across Prison Services Forensic Mental Health Services provide high quality administrative support to the multi-disciplinary teams working within the service. The Ward Clerks work under the direction of the relevant Program/ Unit Manager who is responsible for the management of the area and will provide guidance on work priorities. The Health Information Manager will provide Health Information support and guidance as required.

Duties:

  • Collate and maintain patient health records and information in accordance with Forensicare and Justice Health policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist with the registration, admission and discharge of patients on CMI/RAPID ensuring a high level of data entry accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate patient lists, and ensure all relevant documentation for admissions, transfers and separations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the medical record tracking system and requests medical records as necessary.
  • Enter data accurately into the State-wide Mental Health System – CMI/RAPID.
  • Provide support in relation to electronic records and become a ‘JCare’ system champion

About You:

  • Knowledge of the State-wide mental health system known as RAPID.
  • Previous experience working within a health care setting would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Tertiary or technical college qualifications are desirable.
  • Ability to provide a range of administrative support services.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills.

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.

We provide forensic mental health services for people:

with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system

at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others

referred from the general mental health system for specialist advice, support and/or treatment.

Forensicare’s primary focus is the provision of clinical services within a recovery framework. These services include the effective assessment, treatment and management of forensic patients, prisoners and clients.
