Job Title: Structural Operations & Production Manager
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Structural Operations & Production Manager to oversee our in-house fabrication and project production processes. This senior role is critical in leading structural operation of jobs and workshop operations and ensuring the seamless execution of projects. You will work closely with Project Managers, the Workshop Manager, and the QA Officer to maintain the highest standards of fabrication, safety, and quality throughout the production process.

As part of your responsibilities, you will also oversee the preparation of detailed architectural and structural drawings for various projects, including residential, commercial, and childcare developments. Ensuring that all documentation complies with Australian Building Codes (NCC) and local council requirements is a key part of the role. You will maintain the accuracy of all drawings throughout the project lifecycle, incorporating any necessary revisions or updates. Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing workshop scheduling and drafting tasks to ensure efficiency and high-quality production outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage Workshop Operations: Oversee daily activities in the workshop, ensuring efficient scheduling, job prioritisation, and alignment with production goals using the Business Management System (BMS).
Team Leadership: Mentor, guide, and support the fabrication team to meet production targets while fostering a positive work culture and maintaining high team morale.
Timeline Oversight: Ensure that fabrication and production timelines are met, aligning with critical project deadlines and project specifications.
Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with internal Quality Assurance (QA) systems, including adherence to Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and quality control procedures.
Collaboration: Partner with Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered according to specifications, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Supplier Coordination: Manage supplier orders, delivery logistics, and inventory to ensure smooth project progress and maintain production deadlines.
Staff Development: Support the recruitment, training, and continuous development of production staff, creating a highly skilled and motivated workforce.
Client Communication: Ensure all clients are promptly responded to, maintaining strong relationships and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Scheduling Jobs: Coordinate and schedule all jobs efficiently, ensuring alignment with project timelines and resource availability.
Liaise with Detailing Team: Work closely with the detailing team to ensure accurate and timely execution of project details and drawings, aligning with production schedules and client specifications.
Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives across workshop and production processes, enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and overall quality.
Cross-Team Communication: Ensure strong communication between fabrication, project management, and administrative teams to guarantee smooth operations and project success.
Drawing Preparation and Compliance: Prepare detailed architectural and structural drawings for residential, commercial, and childcare projects, ensuring compliance with the Australian Building Codes (NCC) and local council requirements. Maintain accuracy across all drawings throughout the project lifecycle, including revisions and updates.
Drafting Oversight: Oversee drafting tasks within the workshop, ensuring that work is completed on time and meets quality standards.
About You:
Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Production, Fabrication, or Operations Management role, with experience in structural steel being highly regarded.
Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills, including excellent communication, team-building, and organisational abilities.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of quality control, fabrication workflows, and production processes.
Multi-tasking Ability: Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in engineering, construction, or project management are highly desirable.
