About Sunbury Basketball Association Inc

Established in 1975, the Sunbury Basketball Association Inc (“SBA”) is a diverse and inclusive not-for-profit community hub, serving over 3,200 members from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. The SBA operates across seven basketball venues.

The SBA’s inclusivity is central to its mission, engaging individuals from ages 5 to 80 years, and ensuring basketball is accessible to everyone, whether they are beginners or elite athletes.

The SBA’s range of basketball programs is specifically designed to meet the needs of a diverse community, from those seeking a fun recreational experience to those pursuing higher-level elite competition. Programs conducted ensure that all individuals, regardless of gender, ability, or background, have opportunities to participate.

The SBA comprises eleven domestic clubs, each operating under the Associations Incorporated Act 2009. These clubs are the backbone of the SBA, recruiting players, coaches, team managers and technical officials, while electing representatives to sit on the Domestic Competition sub-committees. The SBA also includes the Sunbury Jets, its representative arm, providing players with high-level state/national competition opportunities.

The SBA’s inclusive approach extends to all clubs, ensuring that every member, regardless of ability or background, has access to opportunities to participate and excel in basketball.

Overview and Primary Purpose of the Finance Officer

Permanent Part-Time – the Finance Officer will be engaged for 20 hours per week (at a rate of $26.25 per hour)

Location – the role will operate at the SBA office at Eric Boardman Stadium, 120 Wilsons Lane, Sunbury 3429

The Finance Officer will assist the Business Manager to oversee financial activities to ensure the sustainability and profitability of the SBA

The Finance Officer will work with all SBA stakeholders to ensure that the SBA’s financial position is grown, strengthened and sustainable

Key Responsibilities

Operate and maintain the financial platform (XERO) and ensure accuracy and integrity of data entered in terms of GL and GST coding

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, invoicing in a timely manner, including but limited to;

Invoice SBA domestic clubs, monthly, for all junior and senior domestic games played

Issue any fines to SBA domestic clubs as per SBA domestic competition rules as required

Process accounts receivables for programs and business areas (Canteen, Uniform Shop etc)

Assist with the management of registration fees for Junior and Senior Jets;

Invoice VJBL families plus liaise with those who request registration fee payment plan and management payment plan

Invoice Big V players that do not have a Player sponsorship

Invoice Sponsors and other external stakeholders (i.e. schools)

Process and manage all cash, cheque, EFT, Stripe and PlayHQ receipts

As applicable, provide support to the SBA Treasurer during quarterly BAS submissions

Assist with payroll for SBA staff, including TOC officials and casual SBA workers

Provide detailed listings of, and follow-up on, all outstanding invoices during the month end process and escalate any issues that arise to the Business Manager

Provide feedback to the Business Manager on observations, improvements, opportunities and concerns with SBA financial systems and policies

Liaise with the Business Manager, Basketball Operations Manager and Treasurer with regards to all related financial activities

Perform other related duties as may be required by the Business Manager
