About the Opportunity
Urapuntja Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (UHS) is seeking a registered nurse for a permanent contract at our central health precinct located 270 kilometres NE of Alice Springs. Our goal is the provide the highest standard of primary health care to the Alywarr communities, the First Nations people of Utopia Homelands. Understanding of and experience with Aboriginal community controlled health sector preferred, but for clinicians new to remote work in this sector, cultural training and assistance is available.

Salary
base salary starting at $126,789.00, plus superannuation
additional 25% - 32.5% pa on call allowance (paid on full-time hours including during paid leave) in lieu of overtime/penalty rates

Rostering conditions
a “swing cycle”/roster of 6 weeks working on site followed by 2 weeks leave

About You
To be considered for a nursing role with UHS you must:
Hold AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with minimum 5 years experience
have sound and well established primary health care skills
participate in an on-call roster, as first and second responder to meet community emergency needs (A&E experience preferred)
demonstrate sound understanding of the challenges a remote clinician faces working and living in a remote area
have demonstrated ability to practice in a culturally safe and appropriate manner
respect for Aboriginal culture and/or the willingness to engage and learn
have demonstrated ability to practice in a culturally safe and appropriate manner
demonstrate strong respect and support for fellow workers, the desire to step up when required and work as a team player
be able to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all staff, stakeholders and community members
demonstrate ability to maintain electronic patient databases such as Communicare
hold current Australian manual ‘C’ Class drivers’ licence or international equivalent with demonstrated skills to drive an Ambulance on unsealed roads
current Advanced Life Support (ALS/ALS2) accreditation
undertake other responsibilities as reasonably requested by the management in accordance with your skills and qualification.
National Police Clearance (within 3 months) and NT Ochre Card (working with children) is mandatory for these positions. We will assist with application and cost of checks.
This position requires direct contact with patients/clients or blood and body substances so are considered “Category A” under the Staff Immunisation for Vaccine Preventable Diseases. To protect our vulnerable community and our staff, successful candidates will be required to maintain up to date vaccinations as detailed in the policy.

The Urapuntja Health Service is in Amengernterneah, 23 km north of Arlparra, off the Sandover Highway. Our Health Service team (comprising Clinical and Mental Health and Wellbeing Teams) provide services through our main clinic and Wellbeing Centre at Amengernterneah and as a mobile outreach team, visiting 900-1000 residents of 16 Homeland communities. The Health Service is set in an area of natural beauty, with comfortable accommodation for our staff including a well-equipped and modern clinic, a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centre, men and women’s centres, and a gym.
