Join Open Minds Tweed Heads as a Peer Support Worker, where you'll use your lived experience of mental health challenges and/or flood recovery to inspire hope, foster resilience, and connect people with the supports they need.
This is a full-time opportunity until 30th June 2026 within our Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) and Community Living Supports (CLS) programs. You’ll be joining a welcoming, multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting the Tweed Heads community.
What you'll be doing:
- Using your lived experience to build trusting relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, including those at risk of homelessness or suicide
- Supporting individuals to access essential services such as physical health activities, housing, medical appointments, and psychological supports
- Co-facilitating peer-led and psychosocial group programs, including some after-hours events
- Acting as a bridge between service users and the community by linking with other providers and making warm referrals based on client needs
- Actively contributing to team culture through meetings, admin, evaluation processes, and representing Open Minds at local events and networks.
What we’re looking for:
- A completed Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
- Experience in peer support (volunteer or professional), with the ability to engage diverse individuals including vulnerable people, families, and professionals
- Knowledge of local services, referral pathways, and how the mental health and psychosocial support system operates today
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and administrative skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office
- A flexible, proactive mindset with the ability to advocate, think creatively, and take initiative in supporting others
