With our actions driven and guided by those with a lived experience of suicide, we innovate and transform suicide prevention, and drive and deliver system reform. We support organisations and government to effectively and meaningfully integrate lived experience expertise into suicide prevention.

Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, supported a loved one through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.’

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager of Service Delivery, this role is responsible for contributing to content development and facilitating peer CARE Companion workshops, peer mentoring, group co-reflection sessions and communities of practice sessions as required to meet supply demands. This dynamic role offers support to develop the expanding volunteer Peer CARE Companion workforce who provide non-clinical, ‘light touch’, in community peer support for individuals and communities impacted by emotional distress and suicide.

Responsibilities include:

Delivery of suicide prevention volunteer workforce training including but not limited to Peer CARE Companion workshops and additional content to meet professional development requirements.

Provide group co-reflection sessions and Communities of Practice functions as required to meet supply demands.

Contribute to the facilitation of community consultation sessions as required.

In collaboration with the Service Delivery team, develop content to support the onboarding and ongoing professional development of the volunteer Peer CARE Companion workforce.

Contribute to the development of content for volunteer Peer CARE Companion training, Community of Practice sessions and relevant resources for the CLSS and PCC online hubs.

Collaborate with the Suicide Prevention Peer Workforce team to ensure cohesion in peer work practice and cross-team integration of content development where appropriate.

Completion of Facilitator Reports at the conclusion of every workshop delivered and post-workshop check-ins with Peer CARE Companion Workshop Support team members and action any support required in collaboration with the Head of Peer CARE Companion.

Report any incidents occurring during workshops, mentoring, group co-reflection and Community of Practice sessions directly to the Head of Peer CARE Companion at the earliest opportunity.

Collaborate with the Head of Peer CARE Companion and Service Delivery Coordinators, ensuring that continuous improvement conversations and subsequent content development or changes are implemented.

Collaborate with the Head of Peer CARE Companion and Service Delivery Coordinators to develop and maintain a streamlined and impactful method for collating feedback, enduring feedback from workshop attendees is implemented and that learnings are integrated, in consultation with internal and external lived experience, appropriately in content and process development.

Provide peer mentoring on a needs basis to support practice reflection, skill development and debriefing with volunteer Peer CARE Companions as necessary (particularly following challenging support interactions).

Support Service Delivery team with readiness calls and practice calls as time permits.

This role requires strong proven skills and previous success as a senior peer worker who enjoys peer mentoring, writing training content and group facilitation.

Please note, if you live within the Brisbane greater region, there will be an expectation for you to work a Hybrid model, 2 days from home, 3 days in our office located in Newstead. If you live in regional Queensland or Interstate you can work remotely from home.

About You

You’ll bring with you:

A lived experience of suicide and an understanding of the impact it has on families, workplaces, friends and communities.

Demonstrated experience in formal Peer Worker position/s, including peer mentoring (desirable) with a strong understanding and commitment to peer work in Suicide Prevention.

Group facilitation skills and experience.

Must be able to work flexible times including regular evenings and weekends to support scheduling of workshops

Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and professional standards of behaviour in sensitive circumstances.

High-level written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively at all levels, both internally and externally.

Proactive, collaborative mindset and demonstrated capacity to work independently and within a team environment.

Proven time management logistics and problem-solving skills and the ability to balance conflicting priorities and work to deadlines.

Completion of professional development recommended for peer workers, such as Intentional Peer Support, the Certificate IV in Peer Work, Hearing Voices Network training, Trauma Informed Care training and suicide prevention training, or equivalent (desired).

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Office 365, SharePoint and a working knowledge of Monday.com would be beneficial.
