Senior Accounting Clerk – International Education and Migration Sector

Full-Time (Approx 38 Hrs) | AUD $140,000 per annum (plus superannuation)

Sydney (Head Office)

Are you an experienced financial professional with a deep understanding of the international education industry? The Next Education & Migration Services Pty Ltd is hiring a Senior Accounting Clerk to oversee complex, multi-branch financial operations across Australia and Asia.

As a premier education and migration consultancy, The Next Education & Migration facilitates international student admissions to top Australian universities and colleges with established operations in Australia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and upcoming operations from the Philippines, Vietnam, and India, this role is critical to our growing global network.

About the Role:

This is not a typical junior accounts role—the position of Senior Accounting Clerk is a pivotal, high-responsibility function reporting directly to the externally appointed Chartered Accountant of the company.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all financial and accounting processes across the business, including dealings with an internal and external stakeholder namely clients, sub-agents, branch offices, and universities/colleges for commission payments, reconciliation, and international compliance.

Due to the highly specialised nature of this role, only candidates with substantial experience working in large, multi-country education and migration agencies should apply. The Next Education and migration operate in various jurisdictions, and this position requires fluency in international accounting practices and a strong understanding of financial rules and compliance policies in countries such as Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

This is a role for someone who can walk in, take full ownership, and navigate complex financial landscapes with multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage accounts payable and receivable processes across all branch offices

Reconcile invoices, manage cash flow, and initiate commission payments to educational institutions and agents

Calculate and investigate the costs of proposed expenditures, wages, and operational forecasts

Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, summaries of expenditure, and profit/loss statements

Allocate expenditure to appropriate budget accounts, and ensure financial accuracy across departments

Maintain and analyse standard costs for items such as marketing materials and student kits

Record contract price variations and adjust for international currency fluctuations

Compile financial data to assist in the preparation of global operating budgets

Liaise with universities, education partners, and clients regarding payments and balances

Engage with international branches to ensure local financial compliance and coordination

Ensure financial practices align with cross-border tax and accounting regulations, including in Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Vietnam

Provide accurate reports to the external Chartered Accountant for auditing and compliance purposes

Essential Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of senior accounting experience in a multi-national education and migration agency or similar organisation

Proven understanding of international financial regulations, including compliance in Asia-Pacific jurisdictions

Advanced proficiency in Xero

Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume transactions and oversee distributed finance operations

High level of professional communication skills to deal with directors, partners, and university finance teams

Strong ability to work independently and make strategic decisions in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or Equivalent 5 Years+ Experience

What We Offer:

Competitive salary: $140,000 + superannuation

Work directly with international stakeholders and senior leadership

High-impact role with growth opportunities across finance and leadership

Dynamic and multicultural work culture

Flexible work arrangements where appropriate
