The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking to employ a Teacher Aide (Student Support – Primary)

The role of the Teacher Aide (Student Support – Primary) will be to contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by assisting and supporting teachers with the preparation/enhancement of learning materials and associated activities.

The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years and is Queensland’s largest boarding school. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 144 years. POSITION: Teacher Aide (Student Support – Primary)

CLASSIFICATION: Casual/Temporary

REPORTS TO: Head of Primary

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WORKING WITH EALD STUDENTS
The duties of a Teacher Aide may include a mix of any of the following activities. These activities are not exhaustive, and other relevant activities may be performed by teacher aides provided that such duties are appropriate having due regard to the nature, classification level and purpose of the position.

You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:

Clerical assistance duties including; typing teachers’ notes and work programs, duplicate/photocopy teaching materials, collation and duplication of exam papers, recording of examination results, compile students results records, assist in organising off-site activities;

Assist in the supervision of educational activities (i.e. in Art, Physical Education, Science, Social Studies) under the direction of the teacher; including direct 1:1 and small group work with specific learning goals and tasks.

Assist in preparing, storing, making available and clearing away teaching equipment and materials;

Assist with playground duties, bus supervision, sporting activities and School excursions;

Contribute to the welfare, health and safety of students including the delivery of basic First Aid;

Listen to students reading, storytelling, assist with Science demonstrations, help students find reference material;

General cooking duties;

Library assistance duties including; assist students in locating books, supervise students in the library,

Take photographs with digital camera and print them as required;

Carrying out other reasonable non-professional duties at the discretion of the teacher and the Head of Primary.

REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE

Working with Children Check;

Police Check;

Safeguarding Children Online Training Certificate;

Certificate III in Education Support or equivalent previous work experience

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

The School takes child protection seriously, and as a staff member or volunteer of The Rockhampton Grammar School, you are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines. You will receive a copy of these guidelines as part of the induction process.

Therefore, as a part of your duties and responsibilities, you are also required to:

Provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people;

Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people to whom we provide services;

Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe;

Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;

Act as a positive role model for children and young people;

Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;

Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;

Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;

Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks, qualification check and professional registration checks.
