The Position
As an Operations manager, you will be required to perform the following:
Operations Manager – Key Responsibilities
Strategically manage and coordinate daily operations across school bus networks, school charters, inbound tours, local charters, and rail replacement services.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients to ensure high levels of satisfaction, trust, and long-term partnership.
Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive growth and expand the company’s service offerings.
Maintain positive relationships with industry peers and competitors to support collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mutual growth.
Ensure all buses are properly maintained, with regular inspections and timely repairs, while effectively controlling maintenance costs.
Oversee driver rostering to ensure all shifts are adequately covered, efficiently handling last-minute changes in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement and transport legislation.
Ensure the bus fleet consistently meets safety, cleanliness, and operational standards; personally step in to drive as needed to maintain service continuity.
Balance operational execution with long-term planning to support sustainable growth, compliance, and service excellence.
Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies, client expectations, and government regulations—covering areas such as fatigue management, fitness for duty, incident reporting, work diaries, and vehicle checks.
Lead incident investigations, facilitate staff debriefings, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Provide accurate, timely charter service quotations to external clients, supporting business development and customer satisfaction.
Conduct regular onsite safety audits and actively promote a safety-first culture through hazard identification and mitigation strategies.
Recruit, train, and manage drivers, ensuring a reliable and well-prepared driver pool to meet current and future service demands.
Foster a strong culture of safety, accountability, and customer focus throughout the operations team.
What You’ll Need to Succeed in This Role:
Industry Experience: Background in the transport sector, with hands-on experience in rostering and operational coordination.
Strong Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to tasks, paired with high energy and initiative.
Multitasking & Prioritisation Skills: Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, stay organised, and follow through on actions efficiently.
People & Communication Skills: Confident in building strong relationships across all levels—both internally and with external stakeholders.
Leadership Experience: Previous team supervision experience, with a genuine passion for people, and a positive, professional attitude.
Continuous Improvement Mindset: Always looking for better ways to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and deliver exceptional outcomes.
Calm Under Pressure: Able to remain calm, collected, and organised when handling unexpected situations or emergencies, ensuring a clear, methodical response.
Patience & Problem-Solving: Patiently answering calls from employees and clients, listening attentively, and assisting in resolving issues efficiently and professionally.
Software: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access), with strong data entry skills.
