Andrew Peace Wines is a large family owned winery and agriculture business with a focus on large scale production and export. Located in Piangil (North Western Victoria), we are currently looking for a dynamic and experienced Vineyard Operations Manager. Working alongside the Irrigation Manager, this role is key to the operations of the business. With a package including a work vehicle and discounted on-site accommodation, this position would suit an experienced vineyard manager looking to take the next step in their career.
The Vineyard Operations Manager reports to the Viticulture Manager and Agricultural General Manager, working alongside the Irrigation Manager to ensure smooth vineyard operations. This role is primarily responsible for providing technical support and assistance in planning and implementing vineyard operations, managing grape harvesting, overseeing the scheduled fruit intake during vintage, and coordinating irrigation scheduling with the Irrigation Manager.
In the vineyard, you will assist in developing and implementing vineyard programs, especially those related to new developments, spraying, irrigation, fertilization, and pruning. Your expertise will be sought when identifying opportunities for improving vineyard practices, and you will suggest and implement changes in consultation with senior management. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring that vineyard records are accurately maintained, and that the vineyard complies with relevant industry certifications and OH&S regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Coordination: Oversee daily vineyard operations, ensuring tasks align with production goals, and manage staffing levels for peak seasons. Coordinate purchasing and equipment management within budget.
Training & Development: Train employees on vineyard tasks, identify skill development opportunities, and mentor staff for career growth.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure workplace safety, conduct briefings, and resolve hazards promptly while promoting a safe work culture.
Operational Management: Inspect activities and equipment, collaborate with managers on resource allocation, and maintain records of operations and safety.
Reporting: Provide regular updates on vineyard performance, labour, and resource usage, tracking yields and budgets.
Vintage Management: Plan harvest schedules, ensuring proper staffing, storage, and quality management of grapes.
Farm Maintenance & Equipment: Monitor equipment usage, track maintenance, and report damages to minimize downtime.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience managing vineyards/viticultural experience
- Strong understanding of agricultural practices, including vineyard management, irrigation, and harvest processes
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills to handle multiple sites and tasks
- Ability to manage and motivate teams of farm workers
- Budget management experience, particularly with labour and resource allocation
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build working relationships with management, staff and external stakeholders
Work Environment:
- This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Shift hours required during vintage peak periods
- Travel between multiple farm sites is required
